Hello people!

Aquaponics hey. well its week 1 of a new interest
and im very impressed by the wealth of accumulated info here, and on other fora

Im living in a shoebox in Townsville, but hope to get a proper backyard in the next 6 months
till then ill be assembling the components

about my experience thus far

I studied the diploma of aquaculture at central west college of Tafe back in 1996-1998.
working with some recirc systems, some pond systems and a seacage

the biggest problem with aquaculture in WA and the rest of the country is lack of water
and secondly but as severe- bureaucracy
lesser pronlems that seem to be sorted now are the avilability of feed, fingerlings esp of new species like the barcoo grunter, BSF etc etc
seems i was 10 years too early.

im enamored by this AP model.
small modular unlicense backyard/private systems
re-using water and solving multiple problems for our society all at once

such as;

a new industry with new jobs
increasing scientific literacy amongs the adult population
making cheaper fresh fish and vegetables
making them more convenient for our population to eat
systems that the elderly and infirm can run, and even gain some income from
produce that is BETTER than organic, because you can even use derris or pyrethrum on them!

im very excited about the prospect of people having backyard systems and bartering/selling over the back fence. Microeconomies that circulate money instead of us all flushing 100 dollar bills out to sea and offshore by shopping at supermarkets.

so ive orderd a book and a dvd
ill have to spend a bit of time UTSE and reading
but there are a few things i can contribute on immediatley

good to be here

thanks to all the people whove built up this great resource

You can be charged for being drunk in charge of a bicycle.. or a horse for that matter...

Mind you... it's a lot harder to ride a bike when you're pissed...

1.well its too far to walk!
2.i dont have a car licence for medical reasons
3.They can fine you for DUI on a bike but they cant take away a licence you dont have or need
4.the legal limit on a bike is 0.07
5. They have to test you at the station not using a breathaliser

etc etc

ive got it covered :)
