There is 2 sizes 1100 dia and 1560 or so diameter. I have used the larger one and plan on getting a 590 litre for a fingerling tank soon. I am looking at some cheap beds that may be interesting to some here and will keep you posted.

C1 told me , when I was looking at using fibreglass to make my buried tank system :

DON'T use General Purpose resin - Use Isophthalic Resin and paint it with a coat rated for potable water

GP resin has got styrene in it or something

Someone correct me if I'm wrong , I know nothing about fibreglass , just repeating what Ive been told

Couldnt the black IBC be used and lined with pond liner , just serving the purpose of holding a square shape for the liner - may aswell use it if youve paid for it

Hi all, smee agin,

Absolutely!!
We just have to be aware of the options and permutations available and have the option to share them, right or wrong; especially on forums that can only offer opinions and experiences. Even my food safe pond liner for my GB's is Black! And the sealant (Gold Label, fish safe, food safe, underwater pond Sealant) is black!!

Look, I just didn't want an early enthusiast to use something wrong without being aware of some of the ramifications. I mean, I haven't even got a working system going yet and am only working and advising on purely anecdotal evidence. So, I'm just frigen a theorist!!
But, over the past 18 months of research, trialling and trying to discern logic from myth, I think I can offer some basic advise that I have faith in and am applying to my system currently under construction. I can only offer advise under these parameters. Sure, some clear, white or even pink International Bulk Containers may have contained shit or similar, but from my research, every Black IBC has contained something that you wouldn't like to have in your system! Aquaponics or your gut!!!!!!

We can all offer something positive, I hope.

Now, AJ, don't use anything Black (unless it is certified as being FOOD safe!! such as Blue stripe poly or plastic water pipe for example!! I know I'm going to be pillowed for that little comment!) Don't waste money on cheap imitations, don't accept free advice as being Gospel (I was once told that free advice was worth what it cost! But then I discovered AP forums!) and do not skimp on your equipment.
Do take time to design your system to suit your circumstance, it is less expensive to spend an hour now than a day later.

Good fortune on your adventurous jouney,

Cheers IanK

Most of the IBC's for carrying acid will be black and are quite safe to use when properly cleaned. I think you will find that all IBC's are made from virgin plastic - at least in Australia any transport container is supposed to be made from virgin material. On the other hand most oil and agricultural chemicals come in translucent or light coloured IBC's and some of them I would not like to use.

OK..new plan...still gonna use the ibc for a trial setup and just to mess around with concepts like drains/plumbing/siphons et al......but no go on the fibreglass..will cost wayyyyyyy too much to make from scratch....

looking into corrugated custom tanks that i can resin/gripset to stop Zinc/metal corrosion into system....i would try some like raintanks direct but i need custom shapes for my site, so hoping this might be a good option.

seems a lot of folk are using sealed corrugated tank systems with good results so chances are high this will be my eventual system.

beauty of it is i got at least 3 months to research and develop my ideas b4 ready for final seup...now Joel-- lets hope that book and DVD gets here today !!!

Dagz,
A member of this forum:

"Rainwater Tanks Direct, Australia's Premier on line water tank supplier"

Actually rainwater tanks direct seem to be a bunch of tossers and they have threatened us unless we remove all links to their site... ADMIN :dontknow:

Also supply these and are cheaper! You may be able to get a "forum members" discount??
Cheers IanK.

Now for Volume v price that sounds pretty bloody good.

id prob have to settle for the 3000 ltr tho, as the 2.9 diameter of the 4500 would stop me from getting past it in the carport..:-D

thanks for the link

do you use these yourself?

cheers
