A warm welcome to all the new members!

If you've come by here after seeing an article on Gardening Australia or in a magazine then you've come to the right place :)

Be sure to check out the album and have a look at the many unique ways that other members have applied the aquaponics principle in their own creative way.

I hope you find your stay very informative

Post a message in the general banter section introducing yourself and tell us your thoughts on how you would like to incorporate aquaponics into your backyard.

Welcome Toncie, I think you may need to rethink your fish species, tilapia are illegal in Queensland as far as I am aware.

Hi Toncie, welcome to the forum - there are several topics on Tilapia most probably in the "fish" section - have you got tilapia up at Maleny?

hi i am marnie( the perfect wife) of ray who i have just signed up to this forum. i will have to take legal action though as he seems to be spending so much time looking up info on this site lol. we are just starting to feel our way around the concept of aquaponics and are very busy planning our system. we have four children so the idea of being able to grow beautiful veges conveniently without wasting any water seems too good to let pass. we are in the northwest slope and plains area of nsw so it is very dry here. i have a couple of questions though and hope you can be of some assistance.
1) what are jade perch? we have read the name a few times but dont reckonise it.
2) ray believes that he read that you can get a discount on joels book if you are a forum member but i can not find it. i would like to know if this is true asap as it will be rays chrissy present and i need to allow time for postage. anyway cheers. keep up the chat as we both find the banter extremly amusing.

g'day Ray, welcome, you got it nearly right, not quite sure what you were intending to do but if you change the font size{size=18] [/size} you need to put the text after "18]" and before "[/size" then you get

the message this size and it automatically goes to normal after "/size]"

have fun

THis is what Ray's message SHOULD have looked like:

Marnie, Hi
Have you heard of Barcoo Grunter? That is the same as Jade Perch (it seems to be a marketing name, sounds nicer)
I don't think you get a discount, sorry
Have fun reading and playing with your system ideas
Jaymie

Marnie,
have a look here and here for articles on Jade Perch. Spangled Perch/Jewel perch/spangled grunter are all the one species of fish, have a look on this page.
We have some spangles in our tank for beginner fish. Our silver perch and jades arrive in a few weeks.

agree Jim, I tasted Jades, silvers, barra and rainbow trout all in one meal (that's 4 whole fish and yes I was exploding) and Jades were the nicest IMHO
