I have the green version of the budget trough as a growbed, and the gravel flattens out the bulges in the bottom of the trough, and the sides straighten up nicely.

Will take a photo this weekend and post in my thread, which has been lacking updates anyway.

Also picking up beds 2, 3 and 4 this weekend at Brookfield, so will be working on expanding my system and soon will be washing more gravel again.

Aha - so you went for the deluxe model (paid to have the black extracted from the trough) - that's great news Karel, I was hoping that it would straighten out - you have confirmed it

want to see a pic of them all hooked up

Yeah,

Allegedly the green plastic is all "virgin" plastic, whereas the black could be recycled.

Besides which, I figured the green wouldn't get as hot, and the boss aka colour commissioner liked the green better anyway.

Also must admit that I never noticed that the black ones were cheaper. And once I have one green one, I may as well follow up with more green ones.

Karel.

Oh, and photos of all of them piped up might be a little while of yet. I'll do my best.

Got the opportunity to have a quick look at Roskar's setup, the growbeds don't need any external support with gravel as the medium so all go on that front.

Levelled the ground under the GH and digging some holes for the uprights, invited the hydrponics guy from down the road for a beer (and to talk plastic covers and clipping procedures available), coming around when the frame is up so have another incentive to get the GH work done.

Then there's the sequentially fed GB thing to do - put that on hold until I am to that stage.

Hey Les, are you going to use the same autosiphon design as your other system (with the twin exhausts :) )

Simmo , trying to see if I can work out some way to fill the GBs in sequence but have them in the back of my mind - they are simple and robust

Ahhh yes... I've been reading the automation thread and others and have been talking to my friend who owns a large wholesale greenhouse about this very issue.

They also run flood and drain and flood each "bed" in series using solenoids.
His opinion is that solenoids are the go as far as price/availablility/reliability/ease of use etc, as long as you buy a reputable brand. The cheapies are no good.

He also conceded that debris in the water can be problematic with solenoids so this might render some unsuitable for aqua use.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing how it comes together.

GH frame up - just need to relocate the pool fence and possibly a palm (if I'm allowed)

The GH was originally going to be in front of the "shed" door but I was advised to make sure there was enough room to get the mower out

hmmm - roughly translated:
If door blocked and "she" could not get ride-on out, then I would become the lawn mower flunky.

Can you give me the specs on the greenhouse frame work? Are the galv pipes connected with joiners and how have you secured it to the ground?
