Very small amounts of urea (once a week) will provide ammonia for the bacteria to convert... and Seasol or Maxicrop...will provide the rest of the minerals and trace elements...

Chelated Iron will correct any iron deficiencies...

Hi Sandi,
Glad to see you made it here and looking forward to following your progress.

Many organic products are fish safe and don't seem to harm the fish, these include Charlie Carp, Seasol, Chelated iron, Maxicrop and Eco-rose.
I like to use them as a foliar spray (not in the middle of the day) as they can be taken up through the leaves using less concentration. Little and often is usually the key, like weekly.
Aquaponics is a bit like getting gardenning advice, there is no wrong or right, it is about what will work for you and what you feel comforatble with. With only 2 fish in the tank you could add a cup of seasol to the fish tank as this will disperse through the bed, it is a tonic not a balanced fertiliser so therefore will not supply all plant requirement but will aid the young plants. When you have fish stocks again and are adding plenty of feed this will be taken over by the fish.

G'day Sandi and welcome to AP.
I was told recently, after having a few trout deaths, that you 'aint a true AP'er until you have killed a few fish! You have joined the ranks early!!
How big is your system?

Just take a piddle into the tank every day or two, that will do the trick until your fish arrive. (If you are taking medication just pm me the details and I will tell you if they are cleared by the kidneys and possibly unsafe for the fish)
