I have just done a test and the nitrites have jumped up to 1.0. the only thing i have done is add ph down as the ph was in the high 7's. Any idea's

Changing the pH will change the test results for pH, at least for a time, depending on how strongly your pH is buffered.
Only other effect it will have is to change the toxicity of ammonia. I think lower pH means lower toxicity, but I've never bothered being sure :oops:
