I just planted a few carrot seeds in my grow bed under my tomato plants.
Is it okay to plant seeds directly in th egravel?

Yes, and you picked the right time full moon soon.

Col! I did not remember see anybody planting directly into the grow bed, only transplanting.
This is may small experimental grow aquaponics system, so I am trying everything.
I have 5 tomatoe plants already and I just planted purple carrots on one end, red baron onions in the middle and lettuce in the other end.

We shal see.

Carrots don't transplant well so direct sewing is the best way so long as the seeds get enough moisture to germinate and down fall down too far in the gravel.

Yea, I am worried about the seeds washing down or moving away. If they end up down in the water all the time they won'y grow. i am still not sure about a gravel bed. But, my tomatoes are doing fine.

Little bits of paper towel or cotton ball can help hold small seeds in place and even be placed so they can wick moisture to the seeds so they can germinate.

I wish I would have don that. that is a most excellent idea!

I planted all my veggies from seed in the GB, I found they grow better that way, plants bought as seedlings seem to be slower to get going, I have a heap of radish going great guns, some seed did float around when my GB was filling to high so I have mystery vegetables in one corner of GB but will thin out and keep the best looking ones in that area, but have put more media in GB and lowered the water level slightly and all is fine, my gb's are Blue Metal, sort of a gravel I suppose, look at pics on page 10 and 11 over my system thread, link below

WOW! 4 days later and the lettuce seeds have already sprouted in the grow bed.
That is definitely a good sign!

since this is the last moon cycle of shortenning light length,
much planted after the next day or so will go mouldy. (Southern Hemi)

Most energy will go into root development with the waning moon,
so that the new moon will be the start of increasing light and will
get the plant frames going

Well, the carrot seeds have sprouted!
