but we are leaving some of the plants a little longer than is necessary because we don't have markets to fill.

Hi Joel,
One thing I was thinking of after my visit to the store, and your feedback on the growth rates, it may be worth considering the local farmers markets that run on the weekends.
Even if you don't want to sell them yourself, you may be able to get one of the stall holders to buy them off you. Pesticide free signs, ususally result in quick sales. There is a farmers market in Midland each weekend, and I'm sure there will be one out your way. That way you are not fixed to X numbers of Y variety every week. Some of the bigger markets also have butchers, so might be able to offload some of the trout also in the same manner. Just a thought...

How did the recent "trainee" plantings hold up :D ?

Always the age old problem ,, do you try and find the market then produce to fit it or do you produce a product and the market will be created?
I tend to think , until you produce the product you really have no idea if it is trult sale-able.

Excellent progress, all you need now is to join your eyebrows together and get down to the weekend markets, and yes the raft lifter does work well, don't they  I will have to take a day off to check it out before you harvest the lot

How is the digester filter doing? Are you willing to show pics of the workings of that yet or are you going to be selling info and manuals etc. for this type of system?

I'm kinda interested in the numbers about how much air and pumping you need to run the filtration to support x amount of fish and how much plant space to use the nutrients.

I really like the idea of the filtration/digester not needing to be emptied of solids on a daily basis. I'm curious, other than feeding the fish what are the normal every day things this system needs. What are the every few days and every week needs of the system? Most of the commercial raft type systems I've heard about seem to need quite a bit of daily attention just to clean out solids.

I just love seeing all that growth! Make he hungry for a salad Image

One question I have is how do you push so much air into the solids collection area without blowing the poo back out into the fish water? Or do you not blow bubbles through the poo, but the water above it?

Had a quick sticky today and a tour with Carl - thanks. The system is looking great and is very interesting.

If you are looking for Farmers markets to supply there is a new one just started in Kalamunda.

So many questions.... :geek: poo tanks are doing ok, we will be rearranging the filters in them for more surface area to increase the draining flow, but to date no solids have been removed.

There will be a write up that includes a lot more detail in an up and coming issue of the magazine along with lots more pictures, so I'm afraid most will have to wait till then because I don't want to have to repeat it... :)
