Yeah, I get that a lot... I also get the idea that a lot of people don't like to talk about serious things, things that need to be considered as they will kill us in the long run.
I think our problem is that we don't recognize death when we see it.

jens ..... What gives you the idea that people don't want to talk about serious things? I seriously know I will die ..... a lot of people are uncomfortable talking about death , for me not such a problem.
Recognise death ??? sorry you've lost me there ,, death is nil function of brain and body.
But the soul go's on.The values you have shown others continue. Facing death and smiling back merely shows strength of character ,, my grand-mother smiled all the way. ( no it wasn't the pain killers)

bY THE WAY ,, DO'S ANYONE KNOW THE MOVIE THAT SMILING QUAOTE CAME FROM?

I've stared death in the face many times.... but I've cut back my drinking a lot these days... and generally don't look too bad in the mirror in the mornings now...

Cutting back on the drinking is often a good thing ....., but as far as death go's , merely a delay , "resistance is futile , you will be assimulated". from dust to dust , from whence we came.
In the mean time ,, target is to leave this world a little better than it was when we arrived. Could be giving your Kids good morals ,, could be inventing the pollution free car ,, whatever it is does not matter ,as long as we each do our little part.

Am 0 Ni 0 and I feed them 2 times a day. When they get a little bigger I'll start moving them into the pool or wait until after winter. Was keeping them in the tank so I could see if I lose any. Zero so far.
Silvers have been in there for a month and the catfish for almost a week. Water does go through a tank running an ABF so the o2 is pretty high to start with.

sorry about your confusion, it wasn't intended... I guess you're smart since you can understand death and what it is all about. but I guess I was speaking in general of my generation and the younger ones. My sister who is 5 years younger than me, all my friends, my cousins who are around my age or younger, they all refuse to talk about serious issues. I guess that's because they're that age. I guess I'm having a go at them because I'm so frustrated with them.
that's all.

Yep Jens I get what you mean.
I was the same in my teenage and 20's and well into my 30's,, thought I was indestructable and continually tried to proove it was true.
Be patient , they will eventually get the idea that life is not all fun and some serious issues do need attending to.

ANYWAY back to AP :)

Hi,

Looks like some of us here having problem with siphon, the problem with siphon is the aretion tubes running from the side to the top of the bell get clogged. If this tube is not there, on a straight stand pipe, siphon may not stop so you will have low water condition.

I have a Bell siphon designed that eliminate that air tube on the side, and it have a venturi adapter which will not clog up. I've use the siphon for about 6 months, without any issue or any maintenance done on it. Sometime I even forget that's a siphon exist altogether. It can also work in flood and drain mode.

If these will help, check out the design in youtube under my name or visit my blog

cheers

I've only had trouble with siphons when I was walking the edge. As in, if you build a siphon that is just not in the size range of your flow rate, you will struggle with it and it may never work. If you are near the edge of the size or flow acceptable to a siphon, it will be more likely to need adjusting as flow rates change with time. If you manage to build a siphon spot on with the flow rate into the grow bed as well as the flow rate though your media, that is gonna be the siphon that runs without issue.

Another problem for siphons is fall or lack of it. If you try to design a system with siphons but don't allow enough fall for the siphon to clearly start and stop, it will likely have issues too.

Now perhaps a timer and stand pipe might be a little more fool proof for a beginner (as long as the timer doesn't malfunction or the drain holes get clogged) but I don't necessarily feel the desire to put fish in the hands of too many fools. Paying attention to proper feeding and making sure water quality stays good seem far more complex to me than a little plumbing tinkering.

I personally think the FLOUT is the most fool proof of draining devices.
