Gday everyone!
I'm a new forum member but I've got a system that has been going now for about 18 months, generally quite successfully. Can anyone help me with how to get rid of an infestation of small slugs in the grow beds? Someone suggested putting a little bit of beer in a can so they would crawl in and drown. That worked pretty well, except the beer evaporated pretty quickly in the hot weather. Either that, or my neighbour was sneeking in a drinking it

Any ideas?

Flood the bed for a short while so that the slugs will either drown or crawl out, easiest done when the bed is empty of plants otherwise they crawl up the plants. Still they are then easy to pick off the larger plants.

If you flood your beds to the height of the media for a period of time the slugs will commence climbing the plants giving you a chance to pick them off.
Your fish will have a feast on the slimy little delicacies. Have fun Janet :)

I have experienced the same probs with slugs. Get some oyster shells and lay 2 or 3 in each grow bed, so that it forms a shallow cup. Fill each with beer. The beer is a magnet for slugs they crawl into feed and either drown or leave the plants alone. Try it it works!!!!. Continue for a week or so and you will be amazed at the numbers you catch. Worms hide under the shells also. The slugs can be fed to the fish. oh and if you put a little sand in the bottom of the shell they get drunk and throw rocks at each other.

drowning in beer or water, both sound good- but I like the rock throwing thing!
