I have recently spoken with a really nice guy not far from Perth that can supply some fingerlings. At the moment he mainly has trout something like 20,000, and perhaps a few of the larger silver perch ie 200mm, but around christmas time he will have lots of silver perch fingerlings.. I think he also had barra fingerlings at the moment, and he is trying to convince the fisheries department that having Jade perch in W.A. is a good thing... ATM they won't let him bring any in from Ausyfish in Qld..

He is very interested in aquaponics, and is also keen to help people with batches of fingerlings of around 100, perhaps 50 even.. He may also be open to supplying feed as he buys it in by the ton.

Prices seem ok at around a buck a piece for fingerlings..

I was wondering about people who may be interested in fingerlings in W.A., and if so, what sort.. I'm going to speak with him again soon, and would like to pass on some feedback about any interest..
What species do people in W.A. want, and how many could you possibly be after?

Not after any fish at present but would be interested in getting some of the Trout starter pellets if he has them. They are made in Tasmania and difficult to get here if you only want a small amount.

Wouldnt mind being able to access some Barra fingerlings sometime in the future perhaps.

Is this the guy from Parkerville??

Fantastic EB. If I end up getting those 2 x 700l tanks from BF I will definitely be ready for Silver Perch fingerlings by Xmas. Woohoo, its all coming together nicely.

50 would probably be the safer way to go in 1400L, or would 100 be OK? What do you ppl reckon?

I would probably be ready for some Silver Perth just after Christmas. Jades would be nice if he can get them. Black Bream would be a good one also if he can get them in.

EB- I would be after SP, or whatever fish species available they'd have to handle temps of mid 30's and I would prolly want total of 100, having 3 ponds.

Hi,

I am after 50 silveries, and am ready for them now. I was going to get 50 40-50mm fingerlings for $3 each down from jurien, but have been a bit hesitant as I kinda felt this was a bit expensive after seeing ~10 to 15cm barra for $5 down in mundijong, what do people think? (Whats the go with posting busines names in a situation like this? Better to be sugestive rather than specific?) But i would prefer to start out with silver perch before having a shot at barra. Would also like to get larger fish like the 200mm sp so i can start eating the fellas asap :) What would be the rough price on the 200mm ones?

Thanks, Alex

Alex,
I just got 50 silvers from up that way at $3 a pop. Actual size probably varied between 40 and 100mm. So far I have had them for 16 days without any deaths. Mine came from Arcadia - don't think they are in Jurien, but can't remember exactly where. I was quite surprised not to have any floaters when I came home from work after they had been sitting on my verandah for half a day that was quite hot.

Welcome to the forums 30092282... how do you pronounce that? :)

Check out EB's old post with a good indicator of price and where to get them...

Hi,

Yeah strange name i know Tim, but u know how it is when u have to add another user name and password to the list... A wealth of info indeed, has helped me out no end while i've been getting my system up. And plenty of humour too :D

Arcadia was the place i talked to, same place that EB got the ones mentioned in that thred u linked. They were $2.60 and 200mm (though thats for 150). That got me thinkin even more about payin $3 for 50mm. I'll guess i'll see what EB reckons after he's talked to his guy. I would rather pay a bit more for more sizey ones to speed up there way to the dinner plate.

When i asked where Badgingarra was he said it was near Jurien.

On a more exciting note i found what i'm pretty sure were fish eggs this morning. They are 1mm, round and clear, pale yellow and white in coulour. Deposited on the grilles of a pump that has been in the tank and not turned on. Not sure whether theyre from the 6 koi or 5 barras (~10cm). Even got the face mask on and jumped in for closer look.

Alex

They won't be from the barra, 10cm fish are mostly boys and don't change sex until about 40cm in length. So, you've prolly got koi eggs.
