I just realised I spelt siphon wrong roflmfao.....anyhoo....... thanks Ell.

What if that "problem" was overcome by balancing the fill rates/ fill levels because I didnt want to have to run more pumps......OR should I just forget the siphon and like my bath tub GB just make the drain rate slower than the flood so it gets enough water

.... I might have just answered my own question lol

Have you got enough grow beds to take the pump flow, if not the other alternative is to bleed some of the flow straight back to the fish tank - sorry Simmo

Nah, no probs at all mate :) I actually use a timer on my system at the moment, in fact, it governs all 3 of the systems I have, this one, the fishpond and the Yabby tank.

It runs for half an hour every 2 hours, and Ell is exactly correct, sometimes (but actually pretty rarely with my systems, not sure if the timing just works out sweetly) the system is mid-way through the flood cycle when the timer switches and the pumps go off, and a growbed remains flooded with water.

It hasn't caused any problems thus far (say with fungal problems, or roots rotting etc), and the only reason I have had the timer there is to save money really.

I had a bit of a suprise just now , I was feeding the "pets" and thinking about the Marron and how they have been trying to escape lately & where exactly they would/could go if they did get out.

hmmmm

The only other accessible water in my backyard is the goldfish pond, I wonder if they would be clever enough to find it?

Meanwhile, I finish feeding the Marron, and the Yabbies, and go over to the goldfish pond. Sure enough, behind a pot of Vallis, is one of my Marron. The cheeky bugger....!!!

I'm yet to grab him (I assume its a he) out just yet, I'm going to my brother's house when I get home to grab his camera. The goldies in the pond don't seem to mind too much, but it might be a different story come nighttime. Will post the pics soon.

Can you see him? Sam can...

Image

There he is, he's either pretty good at water divining with those antennae of his, or he got lucky...

Image

'One of these things is not like the others...'

Image

And this is how it is done, I unwired the mesh over the access hole before taking the first few photos, this is what greeted me when I returned. I told you they were pretty bold about it!

Image

This one sat there quite happily while I snapped off pics, and when I got too close he would wave his claws around at me rather than retreat as they usually do.

Image

So anyway, I caught "Steve" (as in McQueen) with my scoop net and thought I would get a snap of him. Easy...

Image

Then to place him back into the tanks, not so easy... He REALLY did not want to go back in there, grabbed onto everything he could, mesh, wire and did his best to grab me, stretching back over his head. Finally, he was back in the tanks, and Sam and I could rest easy... phew.

It's prolly different because I'm linking back to my ISP's server as opposed to uploading the attachment to EB's...

Yeh, they have an innate sense for finding water............many times my GF yelled at me when she found a yabbie huddled on the floor of the bathroom right next to the toilet..............out of the tank, off a 1 M bench, a good 10m crawl from the computer room to the bathroom over carpet, vinyl and tiles. LOL Happened heaps ;)
