Red scoria is virtually impossible to get up here in QLD, but I can get white scoria (apparently also known as 'popcorn').

Anyone ever used white scoria for growbed media?

never heard of it... see if you can google a chemical makeup of it, post that, and we'll see.

after a bit of poking around, I think it may be rhyolite. I've emailed the quarry that supplies it for more info, and will post back if/when I get a reply.

Rhyolite...... is also the soft stuff around "Thundereggs" (the inside is quartz): anybody done some (gem)fossicking?
I would suggest that you'll get a high pH

Get a handful.....crush it up fine and do put it into a container with some water.... shake it, let it settle and do a pH test
