Hay Dan,
I got a comment message to my web site a while back from some guy who thought I should be linking your video to my web site.

The message was from celebratewaste.org

The youtube aquaponics video was terrific. I commented on youtube and I added the link under "philosophy" on my website. Sorry to not find this great film added to this site. Best of luck, I'll be watching whatever you post. Sandgarden Dick.

Do you know this person? I thought funny, I know that AP system, at least from pictures from your thread.

From the vids his girls look to be very happy kids. Great lifestyle to bring kids up in. They won't be materialistic, which is hard to undo after its in them! Good job all around!

Yes, he is a friendly fella. I have talked to him a bit about this gray water recycling/treatment.

The videos are just kind of a chronicle of progress and development as me an my family move to a sustainable level. I am still surprised that I get so many emails about them :dontknow:

I am trying to teach them a balance in life, to not think like everyone else, to meditate on what they need and what makes them happy. I am exposing them to all discipline of knowledge so that they can be well rounded; including video production, lol. One area I cant do them justice is debate; never cared for it and I dont always communicate what I intend.

Thanks,

For those looking for the timer I use here is the part from digi-key
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSea ... e=Z2815-ND
I am looking for a cheaper source. Even so its $20 cheaper than most public outlets.

The one and off time of the cycle timer can be set from seconds to days.

Its already time to start eating from the AP

Tonight, a salad: lettuce, radish greens, & swiss chard with green onions and yard eggs. For dessert.. Straw berries!

Most of this is growing in my old beds. The strawberries were getting large at first, but now are getting smaller. Is this nutrient deficiency or because of warmer weather?

In that giant grow bed, do you just walk on it to harvest? How worried are you about stepping out on it over the liner and all? I wind up stepping out onto my monster bed on occasion.

I have a 45 mil edpm liner so I'm not going to worry about it. I put a sand pad down under the liner. Only time will tell how long the liner will last. I am expecting 3+ years. I'm am more worried about my feet sinking down in the gravel and damaging roots than making a hole in the liner. I will be putting stepping stones down the center soon then I will only have 3 feet from the center and sides to reach everything. This will help disperse my weight.

I've been wondering if angular gravel would have less give to it, for the same reason.

I expect that pond liner to survive much longer than 3 years. The ornamental pond I put in up in Michigan has been doing well since 2000 or 2001 and there are areas were the liner is between layers of rock and gets stepped on occasionally. That linser is still just fine and showing no signs of deterioration, age or sun related stiffening or becoming brittle.
