Use breather bags and you dont need oxygen or bubbler.

Hum not sure how aggressive large koi are but kinda doubt it would attack the catfish. I'm not sure about the bream but I doubt one lone bream will be all that aggressive to the fingerlings either. I'd just toss a fair bit of pipe cut offs and spare large pipe fittings in as hides for the catfish and they will probably manage.

In my large tank where I have the 4 really big catfish, I put the fingerlings into the cage to protect them from rough treatment.

i got 30 catfish from my friends quarry fish farm. some were really little guys about 3 inches. but most were 4 inches and up and one larger fish about 8 inches

cool dave also introduced me to a like minded AP brother that lives nearby to me. it will be great to have a local friend into the same path as we are here.

he has the same type of FT's as i do and has really good success with the bream, so im anxious to see the system and learn

dave is such a fine person and knows his fish.
he has plans on deck and materials to add 80
more small holding ponds at his location.

extreme fish for sure. i also got to see some really huge black bass and carp and a large amount of juvenile black bass in their holding cages. he even has nice koi and those gambusa minnows too.

the quarry lake is quite pristine. and i sure wish i had a large pond or smallish lake and im really thinking about adding a liner pond here if i can find a good place to put it.

but it was very fun and enlightening journey
to the local fish farm.

cool dave rocks! if any of you in north florida
or surrounding areas ever need fish. its sure a good place to get them imho. im very happy with mine and will be getting more asap.

johnny

got all worried i did not have enough oxygen going to FT so i added the venerable little danner magdrive 560gph pump inside FT and stubbed it up to an old antique lawn sprinkler

its working really well and making huge amount of bubbles. the water is getting really clear now also. that makes me happy :D

maybe not work as well as a big air stone and outside air pump but i had this pump and dont really have a dry dedicated location for an external pump yet.

dave hooked me up with some feed for the catfish until i can have the need for a large bag

but the pellets seemed sorta large for these smaller fishes. i could not crunch it with my hands so i added a big box and my corona grain mill . it crunchs the pellets quite nicely

i set it to about 1-2 mm but some of the pellets do sorta dust out when ground but they seem to like that even more.

at least they are eating ;) but as of yet i cant tell how much and i not want to overfeed either.

how often are you guys feeding juvenile fishes? or should i ask how often for juvenile catfishes?

thanks much, johnny

With other fish like tilapia the more often the better as long as you're not overfeeding them, i.e. as long as they are eating it all up.

as best as i can tell they are eating it all up. my water is clearing up nicely now and more by the day so i will hopefully be able to see the excess feed if there is any.

even after washing this filler material i used a lot it still got really cloudy in FT and ST

next item is im either going to try to run a separate circuit from my main entrance panel around the house to AP (75 feet) OR fabricate a pigtail with a weatherproof duplex or quadplex box i can just plug the pumps into (8 feet) the plug on the side of the house is hooked into a GFI but is also the same circuit the kitchen is on. if lesia happens to run the microwave or worse plugs in the deep fryer while im pumping i have to reset the circuit.

a larger breaker is in order for the kitchen already i think as the same happens if the micro and deep fryer are used at same time without AP pumps.

but i need a closer electric circuit than what im using now and preferably inside the GH
with a light :D

bad day today as i went out and find majority of fish dead
and i thought all was ok.

now im trying to figure what has happened

ammo is bright yellow and o ppm
nitrite is alo flat at 0
ph is at 8

all i have done different was step up their feed but only a wee bit as im always hesitant about overfeeding

all i can figure is that the supports i had for shade cloth
might have leeched into water and killed them all?

i added a new garden sprinkler that also wet the ft and shade cover so maybe the water running onto the pt lumber?? i dunno but im uptight right now :(

the one older koi and 1 catfish is all that survive out of 32 and im having a tough time getting the dead ones out. i may have to pump the entire FT to get the dead ones.

the ph had been 7.5 all week before this disaster

advice or suggestions please brothers. john

A large pH swing sounds like algae to me. If algae bloom, they can suck up all the oxygen in the tank, suffocating your fish.

Sorry for your losses.
