Hi,
Would it be worth using a fibreglass fish pond for a small system. I'd say its been in the ground for around 10 years (in sand), so I wonder whether it would be too brittle to move. Also, would I need to coat it with anything to make it food safe? At a very rough guess I'd say its volume is around 300L. Where it is now, it is likely to be filled in and forgotten about. :(

That is exactly what I did and have had no problems at all.
Check my system..viewtopic.php?f=18&t=2598&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=peterall+s+system
As for coating, I used acrylic paint as my ponds were bright red.
This system has been running since late 2007 with no issues.

Thanks heaps for that. So, acrylic paint poses no problems? You said you used it because of the colour of the ponds - I don't have that problem, but do I need to coat the fibreglass to prevent anything leaching out of it?

Nice looking system by the way.

If it is 10 years old and has been outside all that time I reckon it will be fine.
