Alright, now I have to find some good garlic..

What, you didn't eat all you're garlic Steve??? I was watching a gardening show yesterday and the presenter said something about their beautiful parsley growing in the garden, and how it was so useful in cooking. I thought of you and could picture you commenting "Thats not parsley..!"

Have been using garlic quite heavily lately pretty much 4 cloves in anything i cook. Keep in mind we got a dozen bulbs from reets work mate too

now that was funny, because half way thru your post i muttered "probably wasn't real parsley"

So what do you call "real parsley" Steve?

certainly not that garnish crap.

the broad leaf or italian parsley.

Can I sat 'ding' parsley, it is flat leaf.
...and the only parsley

how do you know when garlic is ready to pick if i planted a clove?
They're growing well on top but....?

I've always grown it in the ground but have some in my aquaponics system which is looking good.
It isnt normally ready until a lot later than it looks ready. It takes quite a long time, at least 6 months I've found.
I think it bulbs up towards the end of its growth.
Make sure you let it dry out in a well ventilated area, I put mine in the shed on a shelf made of chicken wire.
I hate buying garlic as its never as good as the home grown stuff.
The only reason I end up buying it is because my stored bulbs eventually shoot.
This years crop I will store some in the fridge instead of the shed and hopefully I'll be able to use it for longer.

They might form a flower or the leaves will die off.

Hi Gone fishin, check on the progress of your garlick....carefully dig down right next to the garlick, without damaging it or the bunch of roots, you'll see how the clove splits up and forms new cloves and roots.
Just replace the soil afterwards and firm it down.

If I run out of garlick (from last years crop) I just dig up some fresh (imature) garlick....not quite as potent but garlick nevertheless.

As mentioned before, it's mature once the tops go yellow and brown, as mentioned before...... do not water but let it dry out in the ground (wet garlick is likely to rot).

I harvest mine about January or February. It all depends on your local climate/rainfall etc.

In southern Aust an easy way to remember is to plant on the shortest day of the year and harvest on the longest day.

i grew garlick last season in both soil and ap the ap was nearly twice as big
and i had no trouble at all very impressed will double the amount this march

This stuff went in in january didnt get nitrates till feb and is about a foot high will post new piccie tomorrow

planted all other seeds in GB only 8 days ago beans peas cucs, (took 2 days to sprout 6 days of growth)
