per capita more people drink goats milk worldwide.

it doesnt require homogenisation (im pretty sure i read something somewhere that talking about it (it being homogenised cows milk) being shown to cause an immune response in young children)

my point is i'm fine with a piece of cheese every now and then and a drop of milk in my coffee, but i dont feel the compulsion to drink 500ml per day ;)

yes it comes from the goat homogonised as the fat globules in it a far smaller than cows milk, and because it can be legally sold in NSW without pasterisation all the good bacteria are still in it, talking about products in the milk range that arent natural, ever had a look at Soy milk

Hi Bree, YEP...I had a good look at Soy 'milk'. I used to drink it mainly because I have some lactose intolerance .
So ....what's in Soy 'milk'....I do not know. BUT is reads on the label Made from local AND imported products.
Check out - who is a big/the biggest exporter of SOY products? Then came the MELAMINE scare! Coincidently - just AFTER the Olympics. Obvious !!! you couldn't get news like that get out into the world before of during the Olympics! COULD YOU!! Would scare the sh... out of people going there!
So imo it was confiniently hushed up until after the Olympics where over - then all hell broke loose.
I'll tell you I make sure to read labels and see where the stuff comes from.
I'm sure Melamine contaminated products where available/sold at the Olympic venue.
Bon Appetit

Heka

we have just rainwater here. Heasther asked the dentist the other day what he thought of fluoride. He said that if the kids brush with fluoride toothpaste and have a glass of fluoridated water every now and then,, that would be plenty. The fact tht you can't buy fluoride tablets anymore says the lot I reckon. Suely they could stop putting it in the water supply and let people make their own decisions about what they ingest.

I'm still against the stuff. Only one in the family that missed it at a young age and the only one with good teeth.

I reckon the main cause of bad teeth is over brushing. My dad's are fall ing out of his head, and he brushes like a mad man, always has. I brusg for about 20 seconds once a day and don't have a single filling.

So, still being new to all of this, I've only just now found this thread. Haven't started my system yet but have started spending money on some of what I need. Did we ever get an answer to the fluoride question? Can the fish cope with it? Will it accumulate in their systems so that when I eat the fish I'll get a super dose of fluoride?

Actually, fluoride DOES accumulate in fish.
Quote:
Fish take up fluoride directly from water and are susceptible to fluoride contamination of their environment. In this study, we examined the tissue distributions of fluoride and its toxicity in the gills of the common carp (Cyprinus carpio) chronically exposed to fluoride. Carp were exposed to a range of aqueous fluoride (35-124 mg/L) and sampled at 30, 60 and 90 days. The accumulation of fluoride in the tissues increased with the level and duration of exposure. Steady state was not achieved under the experimental conditions. The gills accumulated the highest levels of fluoride followed by the liver>brain>kidney>muscle>intestine. A dose-dependent inhibition was observed for the enzyme activities of Na(+)-K(+)-ATPase and Ca(2+)-ATPase in the gills after the fish were exposed for 90 days. Also, accumulation of fluoride was associated with the inhibition of superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities and a dose-dependent stimulation of malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in the gill tissues, suggesting that fluoride promoted oxidative stress in the fish. Microscopic examinations revealed injuries to gill tissues and chloride cells, with the severity of injury increasing with exposure concentration. These results suggest that chronic exposure to elevated concentrations of fluoride may induce toxicity in the common carp.

There are other studies, requiring payment to access the entire paper, to do with salmon as well. It seems to accumulate in freshwater fish - the investigations are as to how much damage it does to the fish.

BEcause after all, fluoride is harmless to humans... right? So no need to go investigating that effect. :(
