I have just found out about a Aquaponics Workshop in melbourne.
Date : Sunday 17th May 2009.
Session times : 8:30am till 5:00pm
I have put some more details below.

As someone new to aquaponics and just about to build a system is it worth attending?
Is anyone else think of going or been to one of these in the past?
Does anyone else hold workshops workshops and if so when?

Thanks

Guest Speaker:
Dr Wilson Lennard is a biologist and commercial Aquaponics consultant who has been researching Aquaponics systems in Australia and overseas over the last 8 years. This is a rare opportunity to hear Dr Lennard who is a most informative speaker not to be missed.

Other supporting speakers:
Murray Hallam - Principal of Practical Aquaponics Brisbane and presenter in Aquaponics Made Easy DVD's
Keith Watson - Production Manager and New Product Development at Practical Aquaponics Brisbane.
Gary Donaldson - Author of the very successful Urban Aquaponics Manual now in its second edition.

Dr Lennard would probably be worth while...

Murray Hallum & Gary Donaldson are the owners/operators of the forum where you no doubt noticed the workshop advertised (nice plug ) ... and co-ordinators of the workshop... both undoubtably have a lot of AP experience...

The other gentleman is unknown, but would seem to be the person responsible for production of the fibreglass products manufactured by Murray...

As Murray has just expanded into Victoria, with his range of products and given Dr. Lennards commercial AP research background... it's hard to say where the focus of the workshop might lie... and how much benefit might be had to someone "new" to aquaponics...

Still.. if you have the money and the time... I'm sure you'd find some value.... and who knows... you might come away having purchased one of the sponsers systems....

Alternatively.... you could gain all the same experience for free... by researching the forum here....

And I'm sure Dean from http://www.growfresh-aquaponics.com.au/ ... the Vic distributor of BYAP products... and a member of this forum (Live Beyond).... would be more than happy to spend some time chatting to you personally... and showing you around some working systems...

Thanks RupertofOZ for your comments.

I recieved an email about the workshop from a friend. As you pointed out there is more than enough information on this forum to keep me busy and I think my money would be better spent of bits for my AP system.

If the idea is for them to sell me a system then they would be disappointed as I nearly have all the components I need for know except a pump and plumbing. That is one of the things that appealed to me about this new adventure, the hunt for bits and the making of something. Not buying it off the shelf. I am just waiting to get the earthworks done so I can start. Will start a system thread when I have something to show you all.

Thanks again

I heard about this from a friend who is interested in AP. I wasn't sure of Murray's surname but it seemed coincidental somehow that it was a different guy.

From what I've noticed though, is that Dean along with other ppl on this forum with a comercial interest, are always willing to have a chat and give advice gratis
