Fortunately, Echidnas are not quite as lethal as porcupines.
They will bloody a dog quite severely (I wish I'd taken a pic of mum's greyhounds) but their spines are not quills, and do not detach from the body.

It truly is scary what a porcupine can do to a dog though is it not?
and each of those quills can infect, or carries something akin to poison? Some nasty bacteria that makes you wish you'd never been stuck...
Poor dog.
So glad we have neither porcupines nor skunks over here. I'll have a venomous snake anyday thanks
