Prolly best to say it this way...
'From the new moon to the first quarter, a time when there is a greater upward pull by the moon, is a good time to be planting anything with a leaf product. From the first quarter through to the full moon is when you can concentrate on above-the-ground growth, the fruiting type of plants - tomatoes, for example. From the full moon through to the last quarter is a time to be focusing on root crops. And in the last quarter through to the new moon...' '.You can either have a week off,

I just open random packets and throw them at the gb's. :drunken: Think I planted peppermint today. Or it could of been mint or lemon balm. Had a bit of space in the smaller system so I just grabed the first packet and dumped them in. Most of the other beds have beans, radish, basil, tomatoes, carrots, lettuce, chilli's etc. Must start planting cabbage and broccoli.

Here's a general overview of lunar planting Jessy...but note region specific like the Gardenate site...

Quote:
The general guidelines are:

New Moon: (i.e. new moon to first quarter moon)

Balanced root and leaf growth. Plant above-ground annual leaf and seed crops, as well as flowering annuals and melons e.g. lettuce, spinach, celery, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, melons, and grain crops. Begin new projects. Mow lawns now to increase growth.

First Quarter: (i.e. first quarter moon to full moon)

Strong leaf growth. Plant above-ground annual fruiting crops (e.g. beans, melons, peas, peppers, squash, and tomatoes), green manures and flowering annuals. Nurture and tend to new growth. Mow lawns now to increase growth.

Full Moon: (i.e. full moon to last quarter moon)

Strong root growth. Plant root crops (e.g. beets, carrots, onions, potatoes, and peanuts). Also good for perennials, biennials, bulbs and transplanting because of the active root growth. Finish off projects and tasks. Harvest. Prune. Mow lawns now to retard growth.

Last Quarter: (i.e. last quarter moon to new moon)

Resting period. Begin compost heaps and worm farms. Remove noxious growth, weeds and pests. Cultivate, harvest, transplant and prune. Rest. Mow lawns now to retard growth.

Ohh deah, funny Rupert that is the same link I put up about half the page back, though thankyou, .......

the problem here is the heat ....and getting vegitation to take off....

OBO recons BYAP is exceptional and heat ins't a factor, but I am having a hard time in seeing that point in my planting :cyclopsani:

Heat is definately still a problem, but to a much lesser extend than traditional soil based gardens.

Under shadecloth, my surface ground temp gets up to 40 - 50 deg c, it heading towards 60 out in open sun, and this heat penetrates a fair way into the soil. This severely burns any soft vegetable plants, meaning they can only be grown in winter months, where growth is slowed.

The AP surface temp is around 30 deg c in full sun, and 1" under the surface is at the temp of the water, max summer temp was 28 deg c. This gives about two months extra planting time for winter crops, some manage to do ok over summer as well.

Things like silver beet which usually run to seed, keep going for 18 months instead of 6. Celery and beetroot are another example.

Your climate is very different though J, tomatoes and capsicum would probably be your best bet :D
