I would say about 2-5mm Adrian. It wouldn't stay empty for too long. The GB takes about 15-20mins to drain, so 10mins idle. I think the problem is the younger plants that haven't deep rooted get exposed to the heat quicker..hence droop..doesn't effect the bigger plants..Will observe this Tuedsay when temp gets to 35 deg C..I have only noticed when we had that 40+ deg C week.

I am very impressed with clay..so much easy to work with..more costly, but when you have washed over a M3 of gravel, clayballs are the porsche of media. 8)

Has anyone done something along the line of having more water in the GBs left over for summer and then less for winter :?:

If you have 2 seperate standpipes with drain holes at different heights you could change them over for the different seasons.
