Well I'm one of the ones that saw the Gardening Australia feature and thought it was brilliant.

From there it was just a matter of time before I set up a system..

I was yarning with a mate , in Perth on MSN on how to keep our dreams alive.....and it got me googling aquaculture, then up popped a link about aquaponics...so clicked and ended up talking to Martin in Eastern States .... , but he sounded like a sales man, and a bit of a con

so used the google search engine for aquaponics Western Australia, found Joels mobile, woke him up in the early hours of the morning, picked his brain, and wallah . Done 2 weeks research on materials, and drove them made  and I could not beat there prices. ( I really really tryed :geek: TRUE )

And the rest is histrory......but the way I see my purchase, is that is a life time warranty, excepts for the mechanical stuff....which is to be expected...

I found it via my MIL's copy of earthgrden, at the time I was waiting in bed for back surgery. AP literally saved my life, I was a mess before having something to concentrate my efforts, thoughts and dreams upon, let alone joining VB and spending all of my disposbale income and most of the bank's aswell :geek: Now we are trying to make a living out of having fun... it's a lot more stressful when you move up a step and start to try and sell stuff.... but we are learning every day and one day we may even turn a profit

I am another one who saw it on GA and said "Goddamn, that makes so much sense, I have to do that". Plus to me, it's like "Gardening for engineers" because you get to play with pumps and electricity and water and electronics and fish and gah gah gah.

Thus far I'm yet to really acheive my dream, but been doing it for 2 years and still haven't given up.... which just proves that I'm as stubborn as my mother.

Coz I moved from 2.5 acres where I had just completed 5 raised garden beds to 550sqm with a native garden at the front & tiny patio out the back. Saw an AP setup on Sustainable House Day in Bedfordale, grabbed Joel's free CD and I was hooked. Had BYAP install patio system at the back in mid-December. Finally got my fish numbers up to 27 silver perch, installed some shade cloth to stop the plants frying, now have spinach taking off at a great rate, secondary growth on original (fried) tomatoe plants coming on, sown seeds growing, just planted caulis & broccoli. No bending, no digging in concrete clay, no dirty hands and broken fingernails.

attended a permaculture design course and was invigorated, inspired, filled with hope and determination........

but where i live is on a 24 degree slope.... technicaly too steep for garden beds, without expensive retaining... and according to mollison's teaching... the only use for this degree of slope is trees...... and i have thousands!!

sooooo.... had heard of aquaponics through the course.... and bought a dvd... hook line and sinkered!! got the bug and now getting all the stuff together and finding out as much info as i can...

love the idea of producing so much food in such a small area... sustainability rules!!
