It is the lack of back-burning that is the problem. Due to the drought and ever worsening conditions, authorities are scared of doing it properly, and easily cave to the greenies who can only think about the 'poor little animals' Like fire is not an active life giver in Australia!

Mate I agree with you, dont these people realise that fire is one of the major factors in the Australian yearly climatic seasons. The Aborigines used it to control the growth of certain bush tucker etc. I dont disagree with some of their points of view, but when common sense is over ruled by would be do gooders, then hello stop the bus I want to get off.

[I wonder how many of these good folk actually live in houses that contain no timber or timber by products? Not many I wager  ]

Latest report, at 11:00am the fire was 12km SW of Alexandra, and traveling North. My father's farm is 11km SW of Alexandra.

Thanks, word is, they just left, they'll be safe in paddocks in 2 minutes. 2 fire trucks close behind. Farm will burn :-(
Due to the location, speed and direction of fire and direction of access roads, escape was never an issue. They stayed as long as they safely could. Now they get to watch. 5 years of hard work, all down the drain before any benefit was realised :-(

On a bright side (if there is one) maybe a chance to do it better.
Only trying to put a positive spin on it, is all.
Being safe and alive is a good thing.

Less garbled update has come through.
Mum and Dad got out fine. Fire was 40m from the property.
2 firetrucks remained behind, using the cleared paddocks as containment area.
There's a fair chance house and shed will be fine.
There's a chance Grapevines and Orchard may survive
There's a slim chance the Fence will not be completely destroyed (if destroyed, roos get in, grapevines are stuffed anyhow)

Glad to hear all are safe Kuda... and that the farm may also be .... relatively...

Roos.... reckon they might be miles away at the moment.... give it a few days though... and ANY surviving livestock will be hungry and looking for ANYTHING green to eat...

Very lucky KP,

the winds changing direction every day which is making it hard, so many stories, some make you cry with sorrow and others bring tears of joy

The support from the public has been phenomenal, huge amounts raised to help those that have only the clothes on their backs.
