There's another option missing in the vote list :
"I dont earn enough to get the bonus"

so , no thanks from me to Mr Rudd , instead I'll thank Bob Brown and the greens for fighting for me and thousands of other australians that dont put their income on the book..er , I mean , dont earn enough

My kids gonna get it though and she's expressed an interest in spending it on "Daddy's fishtanks"

I must admit Boris... that I'm somewhat puzzled as to why the bonus doesn't apply to those who are unemployed, or on some other benefits...

But then again... I'm sure the bleating liberal political bully boys of ancient political philosophy would choke on their port and shuffle uncomfortably in their leather chairs at the thought ...

That tax payers money should be given to people that don't work and/or don't pay taxes...

Mothers and children excepted... of course... they wouldn't want to appear to be out of touch with a major voting block....

This discussion sounds oddly familiar to American ears.

If I got say $1000 it would go straight to paying off debt, and maybe to a vacation somewhere.

uh , I might have mistaken the tone of the post Rupe , but :

I work , run my own busieness from home , had a miserable year last year and just broke even ,plus Im the stay at home parent , cook , gardener , mechanic ,handyman ,vet , school bus etc , didnt earn enough to get the bonus but my partner did

am I some how less deserving of getting a break the same as she does just cause she sits in an office and answers phones all day ?

I dont reckon the "deliberately" unemployed should get it , but hell , the economy started tanking WELL before everyone put their tax in last year , there'll be ALOT of people who arent eligable cause they didnt earn enough . I think its something stupid like 20 grand or so

as I said , probably mistook the tone of your post or mis-read it , it IS pretty late & Ive sunk some home brews ..

Im agreed with DD there - it'll all get spent on paying off debt , then either holidays or bloody plasma TVs or something

Maybe everyone should spend it on hookers - support an australian industry & keep all those billions in circulation in the country ! heheheh

Didn't mean to imply you were a dole bludger Boris... took what you wrote to be as you outlined..

Self employed, not earning a lot... (on the books anyway...)

Seriously... I'm in exactly the same boat.... and wont qualify anyway... but my 16 1/2 yr old daughter who gets Youth Allowance will.... go figure...

I'm actually looking into exactly what applies to their "small business investment" assistance...

Might be that I can claim the mega system as R&D for the aquaponics business....

The hand out prior to christmas came at a time I was having trouble getting food to the table,
I own a small "specialist" welding business and work had dried up almost completely at just the wrong time of year.

I know what it is like to tell the kids that I can't give them what they want!

Work has now picked up and I am back in the swing!
There are others who need it a whole lot more than me

The only thing I need is the correct box to tick!

Mod's, is it too late to add a "Donate to bushfire relief fund" tick box?
Cause that's where I recon most of mine will go :)

.

well at least if you had a bad year you should have put in a tax return all people that put in a tax return that earned less than 80k will get full bonus (and I hope things are better this year), hence the long time unemployed didn't put in a tax return so they don't get it, which to me is good as if you decide to be long term unemployed then you get enough hand outs, there is heaps of work if your prepared to do anything, here we need shed hands for shearing, truck drivers, other machinery operators and even sh!t shoveler's at the cow farm as well as skilled workers like doctors, nurses, education staff in all area's managers and office staff, problem is we are 250 k's from the City and population 5000, no one wants to leave the easy life, so it is about time the workers got a bonus

Insurance companies will not like it, but they'll be paying out a heap I imagine.

I DID put in a tax return Nocky - thats my point -
anyone earning under 80K and ABOVE 20K or so ( dont know the exact number ) are eligable for the handout - I earnt under that so Im not eligable . well , I wasnt - theyre gonna change it so much before it gets through that only one legged kelpies earning 46k a year with two children living in a spaceship will be eligable

A better idea would to be can the whole thing and spend it on rebuilding Victoria

wheres this "easy life" that I can sign up for cause I live in the city ?

I have though about running mine up as a home business and selling some veggies to the neighbors. The standard deduction over here in the US was something like 10,000, so if you spent less than that you cant deduct it. However, you can devalue the installed equipment over 5 years. The down side is you have to pay self employment tax so its hardly worth it unless you really spend alot.
