BK, your posts do nothing to aid sensible debate.... If you can't keep from personal slander, try a less emotive topic please. :)

Religion was a useful tool to control the masses until Law and order could be enforced

OMG, you kidding right? Have you really taken a look at where all law and governments are headed?

Anyway, each person seems to have their own reason and false version of what truth is. The result no one will ever settle this of convince another. Religion is $#!t, the natural progression of all men and governments is $#!T, and people who claim to be scientific aren't. All of the above are self contradicting; hypocrites.

Views expressed on gods and multiple gods and which one is right or real are so far off historical base and away from fact, it's not even worth addressing. I will say this, you have to look at the persons and actions of the religions founding to see if its consistent with its self; at the very least and really study it to the core.

So few people will ever personally verify anything and just go with what they have been thought and told.

As far as Im concerned It boils down to this:

There are two type of people. Those willing to say there might be a god and I want to find and serve him. Then there are those who say I choose to believe there is no god and I am going to get my way; thank you drive through.

The first group may get it wrong and get suckered into some religion.
The second group, insist there is not god, because they may find it personally objectionable that they are not in control. Further, "gods" plan is no "fair" so they basically tell god and everyone in the first group to go frak themselves and that they are stupid and unreasoning.

Well, if there is a god and you want to find him you will. It really does no matter if you think its stupid or objectionable that you will be put to death for not following god requirements. IF "the god" you are looking at is infact "the god" then he can do what the #ell ever he wants. Who are you compared to a being that is capable of creating you? How could you ever pretend to challenge his way of doing things, its his way and it doest no need to meet you approval. The bottom line is it really gets under the skin when these people are told what to do or more to the point, whey must not do.

So then, if there is a real god and you really want to find him then you will. If you lay down your own choices and will to seek him. If you don't find him then he was not real. Put it to the test!! But I would venture to guess that most people do not want to know because they do not want to face the fact that perhaps they can not do their own will and have their own way. (you know the word... sin).

I would say you have no business saying there is not a god or creator if you have not sought to find Him, but to do so you would have to first put aside your bias and accept the possibility that you life and every thing you know may have been a lie and that there might be a god. You would also really have to want to find him and not just give it cheap lip service. Be willing to give up you life not just a scientific test so you can say "yep, see told you there was no god". IF your not interested then live in peace, have fun, enjoy everything, eat drink and be marry for tomorrow you die; you will have never mattered anyway.

I would also say those who believe have no business judging those who do not believe. No believer has ever led a person to god. They may have been an instrument in gods hands, but it takes the living god to call a persons heart and remove the covering of the mind. Anything else just makes a religious "moral" hypocrite and another excuse for those who do not want to believe.

Both sides feel an urgency to express their belief in these matter. Its a bit rare that this happens without one side or the other pushing their belief out of anger vs love; out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Its good to see a civilized conversation here and I applaud you all.

DDM and Cyara, when do we find out the truth? Do we have to wait until we die to find out whether God really is working his plan in the world? I ask because the evidence here and now is scanty. I.e., the evidence for God working his will in the universe is so faint as to make one wonder aloud whether he exists at all. When one asks why the actions of God are so weak/invisible the excuse that is given is that our world was wicked and Man wanted/chose to have his own will and so God lets us be and make our mistakes. That makes it easier for people to dismiss his existence and harder for believers to convert those who don't believe.

DD I can understand your perspective ....the world sure looks out of control.... but I can’t accept your conclusions as true. The evidence is not scanty when you know what to look for. We tend not to see what we don’t want to see.... or what does not interest us too deeply.

Take fulfilled prophecy for instance. What you are looking around at today was spoken of hundreds of years ago. Paul was writing to a young man he was mentoring, and in his letter to him he wrote:

You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. 2 Timothy 3:1-4

I could give you many Scriptures but will leave it with just this one. We are coming to the close of an age and prophecy is being fulfilled at a rate that leaves me astonished. I never thought to see so much in my lifetime. Just reckoned it was for somewhere far in the future.

I see God working every day and it is always for good. I have known provision when it looked impossible after my husband died quite young. The debt load was tremendous. I have experienced physical health restored. This might be scant to you but it is amazing how big a miracle is when you really need one! But the most wonderful of all is how He shows me His love every day. Dismiss it if you want but I cannot. God says you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart. That is all it takes. And millions have discovered this to be true. Many in the Eastern bloc are dying because they refuse to deny this. The statistics are that more Christians are dying for their faith in this age than in all the ages that came before. In the West we are so into status, money and power that we find it hard to believe.

fulfilled prophecy

One day some people will be happy while other will be sad. There will be people that live off the backs of others and other foke that just want to get down and boogie. We will have droughts and floads and wars that will cross the seas.

Dufflight 1:1-1

"...gods come into being and grow and flourish because they are believed in. Belief itself is the food of the gods. Initially, when mankind lived in small primitive tribes there were probably millions of gods. Now there tended to be only a few very important ones - local gods of thunder and love, for example, tended to run together like pools of mercury as the small primitive tribes joined up and became huge, powerful primitive tribes with more sophisticated weapons. But any god could join. Any god could start small. Any god could grow in stature as its believers increased. And dwindle as they decreased."
