ok, 2.5 weeks and nitrogen is cycling (started with mature aquarium water from another non-AP tank). the GB is smaller and shallower than i'd like, but i have a weight limit. i'm planning on a second bigger system else where, just got to show the other half AP works :D got basil, tomatoes, spinach sprouted 2 weeks ago. chives are transplanted. i just added a second fish, and after the ammonia/nitrites come down some more, i'll start feeding more. FT is 20l, and GB is about 40l. flood and drain timer is set for 15 minutes every 3 hours during day and 6 hours during night. and yes, the hydroton may have a little white fungus growing. my flood level used to be level with the medium, i've lowered it another inch recently. we've had unusually cloudy cool weather lately, so when things warm up, the top layer of the hydroton should keep dry no problem.

since its winter here, i can't wait to grow toms. how long do they go from seed to flower, and then to fruit? these are cherie toms.

Nice setup, and in SoCal you can even get tilapia legally, I think.

Different cherry toms have different seed-fruit times. We did a tasting last year (about a hundred varieties of all types of tomatoes) and found Sungold cherries to have really excellent, if not the best flavor. 57 days to first fruit, according to the catalog, so are really fast fruiting as well. Planted mine indoors last week and the seedlings are sprouting.....fruit before June?
