Well ... with a late southerly change, a drop to a comfortable 26.6... after 41 today...

And the promise of "drizzle" tomorrow and mid twenties for 3-4 days... figured it was time to plant out the spare hydro tray...

Wacked in about another 100 green oak lettuce.... and a 100 basil...

Duff, I could live on fish, lettuce and tomatos every day... if the kids weren't here... :(

Needed some basil to go with the tomatos though...

You forgot beer. :D
My tomatoes got fruit fly for the first time this year. Have made a trap that feeds them to the fish.

Hit 38.5 at 15:00 this arvo before the southerly change came through... main tank water temp... 30.4 ...

Small yabbie tanks took a beating... up around 33... lost about a half a dozen yabbies...

Most of them soft and ready to moult... couple snuck through, by the look of the empty shells...

Lost one of the really blue females that had just gone into berry...

Going to have to change the blue metal in the growbed to hydroton... and shade the tanks and growbeds.... just too much latent heat gain during a day like today....

.

How do you tell what sex a yabbie is. :?: Mine have been fighting, found one with only half of its legs.
And they do a carp muster out this way and turn it into fish meal. Is this worth looking into for fish food. I can always catch carp when I go fishing.

the guys have extra hooks on their back legs... makes sure the girls can't get away... ;-)
the hooks are right up where they join the carapace... have a look at some yabbie threads... there are detailed diagrams somewhere on here.

The description I have for you is that the males have nobbly bits between the bottom set of legs and the girls have circles on the third set of legs up. That should be easy to remember and I hope the graphic photography helps.
Often they separate the males from the females to encourage faster growth.. The males grow bigger and quicker if not destracted by the females. You know how it goes.
