There's a new BYAP newsletter that can be downloaded from our main front page http://www.backyardaquaponics.com . It's about half way down the page, newsletter number 3. There's information about what's been happening over the past few months at the BYAP shop, and on the forum. as well as some info on up and coming things.

I hope to include a lot more information in up and coming issues of the newsletter, at the moment it's slowly growing, 2 more pages than the last one.

Nice EB, can you give any more details about your insulated tanks?
And is the yabby tray the same as your standard growbed?

The yabbie tanks don't circulate at all, they are just a standard growbed on the ground filled with water with an air stone in them and duckweed growing on the surface, works surprisingly well, but they will need a clean out after growing a crop of yabbies because they build up a bit of crap on the bottom.

The insulated tanks are a triple layered HDPE tank, one thin layer of HDPE, then a foamed layer of HDPE in the middle, and another layer of straight HDPE on the other side. Three separate bakes in the oven when they make them, one for each layer. I don't know much more about the process, apart from the fact that it;s a bit of an art form in producing them. Gavin (our maker) suggests it takes about 40-50 goes for each product to get it exactly right. The foamed layer makes it incredibly strong and adds the thermal properties. They are just under 2000L with a sloping base, a gutter down the middle, and a sump for the pump to sit in. I'll try and get some more pictures to show further details.

Hey hey, many thanks for the newsletter, great info it is, but, you promised in the 5th issue that the 7th would contain details of a grow media test you guys were doing, its not there, any update on when we can get a look at that?

Hey Abdul, yeah, in the end we decided to can the follow up article because it was so far after the initial article on different media types, plus there had already been a basic wrap up on media types in the original article anyway..
