I have snails... appeared of their own accord. with the original goldfish probably... but they're the malay burrowing snail, (or something that looks really similar) and haven't grown bigger than 3mmx5mm so far... So wasn't particularly worried. they do a good job of keeping the algae down, you can see their paths clearly.

Hi Guys and girls, my system is running well, plants aren't growing as well as the garden plants, but getting better. Over the last Week or so, I have added the top third of a 1250L IBC as another Growbed, so thats another 400L added to the existing 150L of Growbed. Fishtank volume is about 1300L. Currently I have the 20 Black bream (10cm), and 15 goldfish (7cm). I'm planning on adding 30 or so more fish when they become available, either Silver Perch or Trout.

Which would be more suitable in with the Bream, and would I have to grow the fingerlings to a similar size as the Bream (10cm) before introducing them to the Fishtank? Water temps haven't gone over 25degrees to date (prob because of the small GB volume, and insulated tank)

I still have the other 2/3 of the IBC which I'm in two minds as to have as another 400L GB or 800L fishtank... Suppose it depends if the different species of fish can live together??

Cheers for the replys,
Wavey.

Here are a few pics before the bell siphon is finished. The fishtank is underneath all of the growbeds.

My system has been ticking along fine, with 20 trout (about 30cm long) in 1300L and I still have the 20 Bream (about 12cm long) in 700L. The other day (wednesday), I had a piece of Hydroton block a siphon, which caused an overflow overnight, and I lost 80% of my water! so Thanks to my girlfriends quick thinking the hose went straight in, and the spare air bubbler got turned on, and the water level was raised from 10cm to 20cm in both tanks. I dropped home from work about lunchtime and all was ok, so got 500L of water sitting in the sun, ready to go in, and turned the pumps back on, emergency avoided, thanks Jen.

Over the last 2 or 3 days I have slowly brought the water level back up to normal, but didn't add any salt. This morning (Saturday) the bream are swimming slowly with white paches on them. I assume this is ich? so have isolated the 2 tanks and added about 6ppm of salt to the Bream. I probably should bring the trout up to 1 or 2ppm.

How long should I keep the bream at this salt level? and when I do reduce it, should I just let the 2 tanks mix together to make it about 3ppm all through the system, or should i get rid of the Bream water and add fresh to the bream as to not let the infection into the Trout tank too much?

Water tests are fine:
PH 6.6 (has been low for a while, slowly trying to bring it up to 7 ish)
Ammo 0.25
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 20 (even after the 80% water change! I've been trying to keep them up ready for spring plantings.)
Temp 14 C

Cheers for the help,
Wavey.
I'll try and get some updated pics up soon.

I peered into Wavey's Bream tank this afternoon and saw the affected fish. He's cruising around near the top of the tank, and has a patch of what looks like some sort of fungus on his side about a centimetre square. His eye on that side looks a bit funky too.

Any suggestions? Is there a procedure to net him out and dip him in a super salty solution for a few minutes?
