Hello,
I would like to present my
All in a single aquarium glass system.

the system is definitely more living room aquaponic then backyard one.
(Actually I have it in my bedroom.)
I am keeping typical ornamental fish (neon tetra, rasboras) and ornamental plants.


Original 112L glass tank was reworked to obtain two interconnected tanks, plus trickle filter partition.
Then I am utilizing controlled water level changes in each partition to get something like flood and drain system. In a single tank water level rises and at the other drops.

Plants are put in the net pots which are hanging on PVC frames.
The frames (together with pots) are not fixed and can be put aside or replaced at any time.

First I have started with easy plants like Chlorophytum comosum, Now I am replacing for more demanding ones (Sensitive Plant, Drosera) to have more fun.
There are also aquatic plants at the bottom !

Hiya guys. Newbie here.
We have just ( i mean last 2 weeks) set up our Aquaponics. 2 reasons really. want to save money and have better foods as well as a idea for our kids school to take on. (figure if we can do it so can a bunch of kids)




We just have a basic set up (hubby did it)
4foot fish tank with 4 plastic crates. we are using the clay pebbles and goldfish. (going to upgrade to a 6ft tank later and eatable fish.)

Hi guys and welcome... the tubing from the growbed tubs... Is this is how you are draining the tubs???... and filling from the bottom through the smaller lines??

We have 400Lt/hr pump on a timer that pumps water into the tanks for 15 mins out of a hour flooding them up to the overflow outlet. when it gets turned off the water drains back through that pump.

Wanted to put up a couple of photos of my new, small flood and drain system. Its crude, but I think it will function well. It is constructed of a 31 gal Rubbermade storage container for a fish tank and a 32" x 14" x 12" storage container for a grow bed. The whole system is contained within a small shelving unit with gravel as a growing medium. It is set up to flood and drain and seems to be doing pretty well. I have it on a timer set for 15 minutes on 45 off. Though because it is a cheap timer that isn't very accurate it is more like 25 minutes on 35 off, but I have adjusted the out put from the pump accordingly so as not to drown my seeds. I have 9 goldfish currently in the tank and I have planted lettuce, arugula, basil, cilantro and tomatoes. Since my apartment gets almost no natural light in it, I have 2 twin bulb florescent lights acting as grow lights.





I am very new to this process and this system was definitely built around space and budgetary constraints. My hope is to get a handle on the whole process so when I eventually move to a larger house, I can set up a larger system. If anyone has any insights, suggestions, or comments on my system I would love to hear them!

some boards the same length as the tote placed between the tote and ratchet straps will help bring the fish tank back into a somewhat more rectangular shape.

So, I finally started up a system here in the UAE - I decided on a small system for a couple of reasons. 1. I have no clue what I am doing so I figured I would experiment on a small system - hoping to draw the other half into the concept so he doesn't mind doing a larger system 2. the weight issue of putting that much water on my roof!

It is only 34 gallons in one of the planters so a small system - still it was so much fun tinkering with it to get it to work. It is a constantly pumped, CHIFT PIST system with a bell syphon. I couldn't find edible fish here to buy (yet) so it is stocked with just koi/goldfish. Got lots of air flowing in the fish tank - hopefully that and the shade will keep the temps down.

I know that the materials that I used (the planters) are known to break down in time and UV exposure but I figure if I can get this to last a year and a 1/2 so that I can get in at least one good crop that I can start over with something bigger and better with the other half on board. I doubt I get a crop in this 'farming' year - I think the season is mostly over and I caught the AP bug too late - should have planted in November and it is March.

I have lots of questions about ammonia and pH - but am going to read all the useful info posts firsts.

Ok I give up... there was a small system yesterday which was mainly a pipe around the top of a small aquarium. I cant find the topic anywhere... can someone help?

This is my small aquaponics system located in my garage.
55 gallon tank with 9 goldfish and 2 3" Koi in it.
100 gph pump. I forgot how big it really is.
2- 47 ltr growbeds w/ Hydroton grow media.
1- 150 CFL 6500K bulb. After my seedlings go into the garden.... Im adding 4- 4 ft t8's.
Currently growing lettuce, basil, cabbage, cilantro, arugula, radish, peas, tomatoes, strawberries, and peppers.

Hi all.

Been lurking for a little while.

I started off with a small 30L set up but I've progressed to a 215L set up that I stocked with yabbies, gold fish and a few silver perch fingerlings. It's still under a couple of weeks old and I'm hitting some high ammonia and Ph levels since adding all the live stock so I've been doing some 1/3rd water changes and backing off on the feeding schedule. Also I found 1 yabby carcass that others had been feasting on!! The seedlings I've planted seem to be coming along quite well. Just need to keep an eye on things and try maintain things until the system fully cycles.

I also plan to build a yet bigger system to transfer the perch to once they grow bigger.

Hi, I started with a 55 gallon barrel and 3 half barrels. I built it up to two 55 gallon barrels, 3 half barrles, and 2 rubbermaid bins.






ive since gotten rid of the two 55 gallon barrels with a 150, but then it would exceed the limit of this thread.

My Sandpit System is 500L with a pond filter running 24/7. Attached are 8 hydroponic pots. Growing medium is expanded clay.
