My do not call list must have expired becaused I started getting calls again. And I must have caught an online STD Norton didn't Block! Some kind of free anti virus program that starts scanning the computer and is hard to stop. Also popups to adware started happening today. I left it logged on and went to wally world and when I came back there was a screen full of error messages. I just downloaded ADaware and it found over 300 adware/spyware infections that Norton didn't even catch, and that is the free version. I guess I won't buy anything online until I reimage.

Yeah, Norton and Mcafee can be pretty shocking..

I use AVG free version and never have problems.

Norton is a dog, always has been always will be. Eats all the memory it can fit into it's mouth. :-(
Avast rocks, I use it. (when I can be bothered at all ;-) )

For the past 6 years I have used nothing.
Then DW got a virus :-( and put it on my pc
so I cleaned it with AVG - then removed it.
used AVG cos it was recommended and cos it was free...
sorry said Avast above, meant AVG...
I don't remember these things too strongly as I just don't use em, it's easier to not get a virus, then it is to deal with an active scanner crapping up my PC :-)

Please don't ask me how I manage this. I don't know. Perhaps it's instinct, I simply just don't get viruses. Unless some1 else uses my pc.

Just had my PC infected with spyware guard 2009. It disabled windows and norton and blocked web sites that could help remove it. Got online with Norton and they wanted to access my PC and manually remove it. Told them if there crap program had been working I wouldn't be having this problem. Asked them if they heard of Ghost, and that was what I was going to do to fix it. They still wanted to do it manually. They are the ones that made norton ghost. Left them with a verbal thank you :thebirdman: and started up the spare PC. This one is really fast.

hackers ,crackers , phreakers and seekers
all them 1337, (aka leet) little children and disgruntled former antivirus employees

i finally got dsl and a newer pc that will run the resorce demanding assistive programs i now need but before i could even get the mcaffe av suite installed and get a "good" firewall up, i got bitten within 5 minutes of logging in for first time. this totally bummed me out and really pissed me off.

it really makes me wanna get my voodoo doll out of the box and stir their pot , almost mad enough to say if i cannot find a 64bit linux flavor replacement that i can run. no more pc for me if i must use winwoes crap.

5 years on antique ubuntu linux and i went everywhere to the darkest realms of the i-net and even midlevel deepnet with zero probs, zero downtime, zero housekeeping and for darn sure zero virii
intrusions.

i dont know what number we are on but i would add this:

#? never ever use any windows product!!

You're a man after my own heart Decal...

I also run Spybot... and Spyware Doctor... all freebies...

Spyware Doctor can be downloaded as part of the "google pack".... auto-updates, auto-scans daily... and has realtime protection...

Spybot has to be manually updated, immunized and scanned...
