I'm doing a whole bunch of surveys so if you want to fill this out it'll help me get more numbers for comparisons etc. This'll save me a bit of time I'm sick of interviewing people.

If you own, or have owned, an aquarium, this survey is for you.

My indoor fish tank is 6 foot and only has swordtails, whiteclouds, bristlenose catfish and yabbies at the moment.

How often do you change water? - 1 or more per week, fortnight, longer

With my sump, every 1-2 months

How often did you clean the tank? 1 or more per week, fortnight, longer

Clean the glass 1-2 times per week. Bristlenose do the rest.

Do you get/did you get sick of the maintenance? Yes/No

Not really, it has to be done!

What do you think of aquaponics? Boring/Interesting/Great/Fantastic! Where do I sign?

Fantastic

How would you pay for a purchase like this? Cheque/credit card/cash/eftpos

EFTPOS if not, cash.

Internet or specific store. A pet/aquarium store would whack on the profit.

What do you like about the concept of aqua fishtanks?

Just like keeping other pets, except there are all contained in a mini ecosystem.

Probably the dead expensive fish part.

1-2 weeks or longer if they are built to order.

Kitchen herbs, small vegetables.

Answers relate to my old indoor aquarium, for reference it was a 4 ft ~200L with 3 x 15cm goldies, some mystery snails and a few algae eaters that kept carking it and I kept replacing. My aqua systems prolly haven't been running long enough to give any useful info.

How often do you change water? - 1 or more per week, fortnight, longer

* - I was lazy, so on average much longer. Had no testing kits and used to change when my bedroom stank too much to bear.

How often did you clean the tank? 1 or more per week, fortnight, longer

* - Never - lazy :) and had algae eaters and mystery snails.

Do you get/did you get sick of the maintenance? Yes/No

* - No

What do you think of aquaponics? Boring/Interesting/Great/Fantastic! Where do I sign?

* - Fantastic!

High end aquarium cabinets retail from $1800 NZ upwards. If an Aquaponic system were made as well as these units, what would you expect to pay for one? $1000/$1500/more

* - Depends on a lot of factors, but for a well made & robust & low maintenance unit unit I would shell out $1500, maybe more. Would definitely pay more if supply of fish/crustaceans was included or facilitated.

How would you pay for a purchase like this? Cheque/credit card/cash/eftpos

* - Credit Card (frequent flyer points)

Where would you expect to find a product like this? Garden Store/Aquarium store/Pet Supplies/Internet/other

* - Internet, larger garden stores.

What do you like about the concept of aqua fishtanks?

* - Agree with all points so far, but #1 to me is the cool factor. You can grow plants in fish shit, thats cool dude. Its a symbiotic, mutually beneficial relationship. It can be as simple or elaborate as you like, and it scales easily from desktop size to much much larger.

What don't you like about it?

* - Weird looks from some ppl when you explain the concept, being paranoid about my power bill increasing and having bought at hydro stores with my credit card. Fish suppliers who don't want to sell me small numbers of fish.

If you had to order one of these, what would be a reasonable time frame to wait for delivery?

* - 2-4 weeks, depending on size.

What would you prefer in the garden component of these? Kitchen herbs, native plants/flower beds/mixture.

* - Herbs/Veg, Natives.

Do the issues of water conservation and pollution concern you? Yes/No.

* - Yes

Age - Young/Youngish/not quite youngish/used to be youngish

* - 29

Industry you work in?

* - IT

Hobbies and interests?

* - Aqua, Tech/Games, Gardening/Aust. Natives.

* - Yes, a definite must.
