A tablespoonful or small handful every 4-5 days would have been more than enough Blissy ... IMO...

With a test in between to see how things were going....

Speaking of which, when this does happen your plants are going to go nuts.
You will get excited.
Keep testing, you want to get fish in there as soon as your nitrite spike disappears.
If you don't, you may find a nitrate 'dip'
I believe this happened to me. Everything stopped growing, then half the bed went to seed :-( I'm guessing it was the stress.
How however all is taking off again.

Good luck.

M8 - Thanks for taking a hit for the team.
Now anyone who reads this will not do it that way.
I hope it can clear up quickly for you.
Would adding beneficial aquarium bacteria from a bottle or packet help speed things along?
If you can take pix of your readings as it progresses it would be cool to see the dark colours.

Yeah, I am hoping that as the nitrites are processed the ph starts to drop. Sorta worried about the gravel that he has used.

Sorry... but those nitrite and pH tests are about face I reckon.... the colours are just all wrong...

You can get that "greenish" colour (6.8) in the low range pH tests... and despite what some have said... I've never seen a nitrite test that colour of green... but I have seen that "cerise" colour (2.0) in nitrite tests before ...

How many drops are your adding for each test.... I'm wondering if the bottles are mislabeled.... :dontknow:
