I agree GD - reason I responded speaking about silverbeet is that Nick's question was about Murray's 'spinach' which are actually silverbeet. My spinach in the garden has bolted to seed now - it is definitely past spinach season. Also, most spinach likes semi-shade or shade.

Hey :),

VB have you tried growing Silverbeet 'Perpetual Green'Beta vulgaris ssp. Cicla. I used to grow this and was good from spring to autumn, but might last longer in aqua systems in a hothouse ...this one also resists bolting to seed. I just kept cutting it and it kept on growing

I have just grown the regular types such as fordhook giant and rainbow chard. My silverbeet (as opposed to spinach) always lasts for ages - I just harvest the outside leaves and let it regenerate. Before my chooks got eaten, I used to feed them tonnes of the stuff. The only problem I have had witht eh silverbeet is that sometimes it succumbs to a mildew. This is likely to be more of a problem in a hothouse setting.

yeah i think will be the spinach, so will have to get the silverbeet. Hopefully will have some good photos of new growth in the next three or four weeks. I will by then have at least three new grow beds and possibly four up and running. It is very exciting time. :D :D :D

i work alternating saturdays and sundays at the pet shop and usually only remember which day I am working for the next week, so will actually have to look further ahead in this instance.

Also the GF lives in toowoomba and so I only see her during the weekends, and usually only one full day on the weekend and she might not be too happy if I took time from her sunday to go to an AP meeting despite her knowing and seeing my current efforts and thoughts on the subject.

sorry the laughter emoticon is that I am going to pick up my growbed tommorrow morning. It wasn't the best but I could not find a winking one. Which still might not have been appropriate.
