I checked out the local commercial flower grower up the road a bit. Family owned business, been there for years, heaps of hot houses both igloo and glass. They tell me to go clear for max light and heat trans for winter. They white wash during summer to stop burning on the delicate bits of their flowers and open up the ventilation to max. In summer on a typical 36Deg sunny day they will have 40+ in the hot houses.

I found that walking around with rifle pointed toward the fence has a postive effect :)

Joking,I'm lucky have tall 1.75m fencesand both side neighbours are nice.

Finally getting my 7 x 10 meter hot house finished. I used clear Suntuf polycarbonate sheet. The problem now is that it is TOOOOOOO HOT. Its 33 Deg outside and it is 50 + Deg in the hot house. I'm busy installing shade cloth on the underside of the roof on cables so that I can move them around depending on the out side weather. Its so hot inside that I will have wait till it gets cooler to finish installing the shade cloth. I have a chook pen inside the hot house so I have had to cover it temporarily to keep the chooks cool or I will be getting hard boiled eggs. I guess the answer to my origional question is if you use clear sheet you will most definatly need shade cloth in the warmer months.
Hopefully I will have my system up and running by the end of Feb.

You would be better putting the shade cloth on the outside this will stop the sun getting into the glasshouse i have taken glass from the peaks both ends my glass house system is at the moment 1 deg higher than the outside system

I work with a guy who has kept bearded dragons for a few years. He assures me that they wont make too much of a mess of my greens but they LOV BUGS. Its worth a try if I can keep the hot house closed to keep them in. Maybe I won't experience too many bugs with a lock up anyway. I have yet to get the system up and running.

I've got all of the gear to put up the shade cloth on the inside so I will persist. I also have a roof wirlyfan/vent that I will be installing. Putting the shade on the outside is a very difficult option although I agree that it would be the most effective.

Hi BB, where do you get your bearded dragons from? catch them in the wild? Had one in in my vegetable garden (soil) some month ago....it was actually the second one I saw, the other one I saw 18 month ago.
Thanks for all the info on polycarbonate sheeting ......I want to get some eventually to cover my GB.

Hi all, just applying some CPR to this thread. I was just wondering if anyone has used the opaque/white coloured polycarbonate as a green house roof over their AP system in the central queensland areas? From say rocky to townsville and how it performed heat/light wise. Or even if it was used as the walls as well.I'm trying to avoid using the clear one and then having to put shade cloth over it.[as I am quiet lazy :sleepy:]
