Weird thing going on here, mates. I'm trying out Verizon and it is nice and fast and websites load fast. I've tried dozens of sites and all is good.....except it invariably will not load any BYAP pages. All I get is "The server at www.backyardaquaponics.com is taking too long to respond." Does anyone have a clue?

Hmmm....interesting thought...let's see....how to find AU sites? Marron aquaculture?:

(no joy) viewtopic.php?f=5&t=449&p=164403#p164403
(fast and good) http://www.aquaculturecouncilwa.com/mar ... on-farming
(fast and good) http://www.fish.wa.gov.au/sec/aqua/species/Marron.php
(fast and good) http://govdocs.aquake.org/cgi/reprint/2 ... 020460.pdf
(fast and good) http://www.rirdc.gov.au/pub/handbook/marron.html
(fast and good) http://www.regional.org.au/au/apen/2003 ... achind.htm

This was under Firefox. I also dug into the wastebin of my computer and dredged out IE with same results: no joy with BYAP. This is really, really mysterious.

Yeah, perhaps thats it... They might be using a banned list that includes BYAP for some reason..

can you get to
http://www.byapmagazine.com/ (site hasn't been set up properly yet but you should see something)

What about
www.aquaponicswiki.com

try the following and let us know the reports
go to start run
type cmd
in the dos window type ping www.backyardaquaponics.com
then try
nslookup www.backyardaquaponics.com
then try
tracert www.backyardaquaponics.com

pinging will let you know if you can reach the site.
nslookup lets you know if the site an be resolved ie: change site address to ip address.
tracert will let you know where the blockage is if you can not reach the site.

cheers
Ron

It looks to me when I run tracert etc that it is byap itself that is refusing to respond. See the tracert info obtained under verizon (failure) and under my usual satellite internet.

myvzw.com ... (aka vzw.msn.com) ... is hosted on one of Microsofts "Windows Live" servers... based in the US.... handles all the MSN chat gumbos.... via mobile web... ie. it's all wireless/satellite mobile & blackberry device traffic via mobile phone towers....

Then you get bounced back to servers in NZ (global-gateway.net.nz... hosted by netgate)....

An known problem connection... that often suffers up to 65% packet loss...

What router are you using... you may be able to set the routing table..... or you could change the default value of the "hop-limit"... so that it didn't "timeout"... would still be slow though...

My best tip.... ditch Verizon... and go with someone else...

Actually Hydro.... I think the Microsoft server host the Windows Live webmail... MSN webmail, hotmail, mobilenet webmail etc... rather than the MSN chat gumbos...

Why you're being directed through Global Gateway NZ is a bit strange though.... although a lot of traffic to Australia does go via NZ....

FYI - By pinging the hostname you are resolving the IP :)

hydrophilia - that trace is nasty. It appears your ISP doesn't know how to correctly route to the network BYAP is on. Can you try a trace to http://www.telstra.com or http://www.iinet.net.au etc and post the results?

If these trace OK, then you'll have to report this problem to your ISP (Provide a working and non-working trace) for their routes to be updated.

Actually, wait a sec - I see you're using www.backyardaquaponics.com - try using www.backyardaquaponics.com.au . These two sites are on different IP's, even though they appear to be on the same box / datacentre (why you would do this, I don't know).

Verizon may have more luck routing to 203.17.36.111 - worth a shot anyway.

Geeks :geek:

I always just ring providers up and be polite but firm.
Mind I had to hit Telstra over the head a few times re the pair gain system we had :)
