Our temps here have been in the high 20's and low 30's every day. We're on about the same Latitude as Perth 34deg S. Pond temperature has averaged 28. I understand that our local rainbow and brown trout cannot handle temps over 20 so I am considering growing them in Winter, hence the interest in trout in Summer. The fish in the photo look like beauties !!

Hey Synaptoman, Benson has a 5000 litre tank with his fish in and I don't think we have had a day over 30 degrees yet. It was only about 2 weeks ago that the trout came out down at the shop. The weather is exceptionally mild this year and we have had rain and cold up until now. Next week we are expecting high 30s so it is definately the end of trout time. Very late this year and I remember way back last year I harvested my trout before the end of October. Tis all about the seasons and temperatures in this game and not so much the dates.

Who ever said Christmas is just about chocolate (thats desert)

Most of whats on the plate came from the system. Water temp not to bad, and water crest on top of tank helps with shade and cooling.

Barra time!

Just put in 30 1/2 Kilo plus barra from Golden Ponds (perth), couple are over a kilo, 40 plus cm.

Pulled the remaining trout on boxing day as 27 degrees was making them a tad sluggish!

Anyone know if floating Trout pellets are ok for barra, they are not really feeding on the pellets right now, although I have noticed the yabbies are looking like lunch..

Happy New year all

The big barra take ages to eat, ours are only just starting to eat a bit now after almost 2 weeks, these last few hot days their feeding has improved. They are taking the floating trout pellets ok, so yours should be right..

It's nice seeing the big ones in the fish tank isn't it..... :)

Just thought I would share this picture and explain.

Everything shown was either grown in our 780 sq metre block or picked (Mullberries) on our daily walk.

Some was grown in soil, others in the system, and others are by products of the system, scraps feed the chooks, chooks lay the eggs, eggs is a primary component to the homemade icecream.

We didn't make or grow the plastic that wraps the fish :geek:

Thanks Joel and Faye for all your help so far - we will surely bother you more in the coming months.

If you don't already know - separating species of plants reduces insect / caterpillar attack.

Plant onions in between lettuce, corn in between cabbage, etc....
