That's it Rupe! You've done it now!

OK First up Murphy was a real guy. He was an aeronautical engineer or some such.
Second up the law "If it can go wrong, it will" Is not Murphy's Law!!! It's 'Sod's Law" or "Some Pessimistic Bastard's Law" or some such.

Murphy was working on the effect of G-Forces on the human body.
He got a Rocket, affixed it to a rail sled, then built in Big Brakes.
The idea being:
- Put a man on the sled.
- Accelerate up to "ludicrous speed"
- Slam on the brakes
- Measure the G-Forces
- See what happens to the man.

so they went ahead and did this.
When they got the guy off the sled, he was passed out, his body was bruised etc - in short he was very sad and sorry.
However when Murphy checked the test results, he found that someone (there is debate as to if it were he or an underling) had hooked up all the sensors in revers, and that the test was for nothing.
This is because, as with American wall sockets (until recently) you could put them in any way you like.

So Murphy is purported to have said (and I'm paraphrasing) "If something can be done, in more than one way; somebody, somewhere, sometime: Will"

So Murphy's law is about fool-proofing, pokeoke, error-proofing etc
It is about ppl screwing up, no matter what's written in front of them.
It's simply a human being's inability to do something right, every time. So there is a necessity to ensure it can only be done in one manner. Such as Australian power point design, we simply cannot put the plug in the wrong way (believe me, I've tried - just for fun).

Such is Murphy's law, and here endeth my rant (I hope)
It is my solemn wish that all ppl on the forum read this post,a nd that Murphy is not longer either misquoted, nor vilified as a pesimist!
Harumph :snooty:
