Shade the tank... and give them some hides Jessy, especially the "littl'uns"...

They'll be spooked and snappy... more than hungry IMO ... and adjusting to "new" territory..

All is going great, only lost the fish in the hospital tank, and the ones dead on arrival, so that would be an estimation of 150, but the other 250 odd are looking good, all parameters are 000...

The salt and the three air pumps saved the weaker few from a sad fateful death.....will disconect one of the pumps in comming days

 it is working

well it seems like it is on,......some of the larger sizing barra are swimming around with fat tummies......and this poor sucker I found swimming on the surface is an obvious reason why  Oh well, wish they would start to hurry up and get into the feed

Only problem with fish that prefer each other to the pellets. You were right to order the extra. When everything settles down you will come in close to the perfect amount for your system.

well it has been close to three days now, and the barra still aren't eating ( doing a fine job on each other though.. )

The pellets I am putting in there are disappearing, so maybe they are having a feed when I am not looking

All parameters 000

Anyone have any idea when they might start to school and feed

If the pellets are going Jessy... they're probably eating them... I'd suggest feeding them tonite...

What size and type of pellets do you have???... and roughly how big are most of the remaining fish... I'll work out roughly how much you should be feeding...

They were obviously starved for a couple of days... so they will be hungry by now... and will look at each other....

They probably wont school and swim freely around... or rise to the pellets until they've de-stressed and feel comfortable with their new surrounds... don't panic...

I am using the Barra pellets from BYAP...3 mm

Fish length is a hard one, approx. 220 barra around 40 to 50 mm ...and 40 larger fish from 100mm to a bit bigger

OK... I would go about 100gms of feed per day... split into two feeds, morning and evening...

Watch the first feed and see whether or not it all gets eaten... if it doesn't, check again when you do the morning feed ...

If they're still not eating it all pretty much straight away... then cut the evening feed back to about 40gm... same thing the next day (2 x 40gm)....

If they eat it all.. then stick with the 100gms for a week then try a 60gm feed one evening (especially if your tank temp is up... warmer water, higher metabolism)....

If they take the 60gm, then repeat the next morning and evening... if theyre taking it then continue feeding 120gms/day...

If they're really snapping it up after a day or two... up it to 150gms...for a week...

See how you go from there...

Ok will do , was googling away the other day about feeding barra, and a few sites mentioned 6 small feeds a day for barra fingerlings, and cut back to four and then two as they get larger......thanks for the calculations, i was trying a small handful, here and there

3 or 4 feeds are fine for very small fingerlings... 2-3 times a day is good up to about 300gm+ fish...

If you can do it, great... suggested twice daily, becuase that's probably the best most people can do.. and it's better than a big hit once a day...

Bit concerned as to whether the 3mm pellet might be a bit big for the smaller fish (40mm)... if you can I'd smash/grind a bit of the feed into some smaller pieces... unless you've got some 2mm handy...

Just for example... my Silvers are probably between 70-120mm+... I use a 50:50 mix of 2mm and 3mm at the moment...

I'll grade mine in a week... and then review the feeding... might be an idea (if you've got the tanks) to think about grading your fish in a couple of weeks or so...

You have a quite a wide difference in size .... 40mm - 100mm +....
