It is easier to cut the barrels the other way. On that shelfing you could have them two deep. More GB size. Where is the system going to be positioned.

The racking isn't deep enough to do 2 deep... its 2000Lx2000Hx600D, I think the best you could do would be 3 tall halves instead of 2 long halves... there might be weight problems as well unless I was using Hydroton... I am going to use natural river gravel due to the cost... also the water volume with 3 tall halves would mean a sump would be required to keep the water level in the fish tank reasonable.

Hope I have read your post correctly...

Weld mesh on the shelf and have them over hang the edge. Barrels siting on there ends are very strong. But its something you can play with later. Is the shelf going to sit on something besides the lawn. It might sink.

I am planning to do some landscaping and build an area for the 5000L water tank I bought last night (delivered this morning) and incorporate the AP systems, there will be 2 of these setups at this stage. I am considering dyna bolting these frames to a 200x200x600D footing on each leg of the end frames to make sure that they don't go anywhere. The AP systems will be positioned where the current pile of dirt is in the background of some of the photos... that was supposed to be a vege garden...

With the footings in place there wouldn't be any sinkage... I hope :D

DD,
If you plant climbing plants in those two barrels cant you plant some more in two more hlaves at the top? Would have to bolt the system down as it would be top heavy and you do not want it falling onto them AP specialist you have running around there
Also you would need a ladder but you could use the side of the frame for that
Cheers,
KarelM

I was thinking the same thing as Turando - bolt em down and add another layer of growbeds

that first layer of half barrels WILL fall through , even filled with water , unless you support them somehow

nice paintjob , its gonna be a nice looking system

DDC, works better ;)

Cute kids Dave, train 'em young

You will probably find you'll want more growbed volume as time goes on anyway ;)

Its the plastic that will bend under the weight and squeeze through the steel.

Yeah, true... I didn't think of that one... I was thinking that the steel should be strong enough to hold it all together. I have some strapping left over from the deck construction that will do the job nicely. How many straps did you add to your barrels Ryan?

I used 4 straps on each one, but you could probably get away with 3.

Here are some more pics of the progress to date... I have started the landscaping for the rain water tank and ap systems, hopefully it will be finished in the next few days if its not to hot. I am digging in some extra stormwater as well in the process as it is the last chance I'll have to run the pipes.

Also if your interested here's the adventures I am on whilst on 6 weeks leave from work...

Cheers all.
