Morning everyone,

I had done another water check today as its going a little green ( I think this is normal from what I have read)

so today my readings are

PH 7.4 :)
Ammonia 1
Nitrite & Nitrate both at 0 :D

so I am going to let the pump drain onto my ground veg patch for a couple of cycles and add so fresh water to get the ammonia down a bit.

Any thing else I need to do? Is the green normal and how long will it last, how bad do I let it get before I step in?

so far we have not lost a fish for 3 days now so that is a great thing... :flower:

Thank you for all your help and info you guys are great.

Well, you know with getting a new system 'balanced'
cycling, as it has been called, has to go through a few stages
to get to a place where the nitrification process is working...
new bacteria colonies etc..
I would be inclined to watch rather than change the playing field
too often... when it is enevitable the water body will go green briefly,
we adjust something, nature is a better...if it
kills your fish, well you wouldn't want them living in it, if it was too 'Hot'.

What salt PPT do you have?

We are waiting....LOL pond it looking very green cant see the fish at all so not sure if they are ok or not.

I had added a little fresh water (very small amount) the other day before your reply but have not done anything since.
haven't added any fish food either for last day and half.
Ammonia level droped to .5 yesterday, will check again today some time.

Not idea what the salt level is how do I tell that, I had not added any.

any idea how long the green will last just seems to keep getting darker green every morning.

no feed
salt? so there is none in there?
ammo coming down...
the green will change over night...
do you have 'stringy' algee, aka - elephant snot?
How many litres do you think your pumping
( better would be turnover)
ie the water body is pumped how many times x day?
I need to re read ur thread...

To be safe, especially with the ammonia coming down = nitrite going up, add 1kg of salt per 1000 litres of water.

Reduces the nitrite toxicity.

ok just did today's readings are

PH 7.5 up a little bit
Ammonia back down to 0
Nitrite & Nitrate both still at 0

so I guess I still just wait now...

with the Nitrite and Nitrate staying at 0 do I still need to add salt?

we do not have stringy algee in there, just went and checked.

we have a 3000lt pump on there which is on for 30mins then off 30mins
pond about 2000lt.

we do only have a small grow bed on there atm of 150lt so not sure if that means anything.

Thanks everyone for your help, when we get it all going good and the fish are a nice size we will have to have you over for a bbq and a beer to say thanks the right way...LOL

A 150l bed will not really reduce the green at all. Your about 850l short.

You do not need to salt, unless you get nitrites showing. A lot of us do anyway, as a precaution.

morning everyone,

Thought I would give you all an update.

water readings today are all 0
bar PH which is sitting nicely still at 7.5

POND HAS CLEARED...YAHHHHHHH
just in time for the family coming up for xmas as well...

I have seen 3 of our 4 fish so far, but there is no body of the other one so he may be hidding in the plants and rocks.

Steve is talking about getting some more fish after xmas day is it ok to put them in now or best to wait still?
we are also going to add some more growbeds over the xmas break as well.

thanks for all your help, you people on here are so great.

Do you have a cover for the pond?
OB it doesn't need a GB for the balance to start.
My front ponds do it every year and have no GBs ATM
After winter wih the frogs, there is no movement...
and the alge gets really thick - elephant snot for those who know
But by now (this time of year) it is starting to go clear
and the taddies eat the strand clumps... recently I have collected some 'clumps'
and added it to the sump with the most marron
for some free food  it's gone in 3 days.

Good luck tan
