have u tried heating and lighting?
i think that lower air temps shouldn't be a problem over day, air heating would be needed mostly at night if so, since the water(substrate) would be heated you don't need to heat the air much

would love to hear your story:)

Oh I'm indoors with tilapia, going to try trout after the new year. No structure for plants in the Winter (yet). Plant-less until March maybe!

I would like to have the water temp always lower than the air temp to keep condensation down when the time comes. Air temp close to ambient except without day/night swinging so much.

yeah that would be nice, not in case of air temps lower than 10 deg
wasn't faye or EKB using some heaters in her indoor system?

i was also thinking this way, since my GBs are a huge heater for my FT over the summer(they recieve most of the heat from the sun), i could use them backwards - heating my water-heating my GH with the GBs.. i just can't imagine what an effect would it be and what would i do with the condensation as u said...an air heater would do the trick i guess
i was looking at this..http://www.builditsolar.com/Projects/Sp ... eating.htm
and there are quite a lot of ideas, good ones, also about storaging heat and so on, take a look, maybe u'll get an idea of your own...share 8)

Yep I love that stuff, maybe will experiment with some things during the hibernation period.

Is it wrong to think polycarbonate is sexy?

as said i've been working on my salad machine lately, it's placed under a window on the south of the building, connected to my old aquarium to use some more of the nutrients and help to process the solids that have built up.

i've added some chelated fe and seasol + some aminoacids+humic, that's why the water is so colored. this new Fe supplement i got is 6% and it gives off a lot of color. my previous one had 3% and a more natural color...i don't know, so far so good...yeah my aquarium should be wiped and isolated, will do that soon too:)

the aphids had a lot to do with it, i just couldn't get rid of them with no garlic or something spray, i'll have to bring some fresh seedlings, the roots did grow some though

must figure out a cheap way to heat the aP water and the GH, would be fun to have veggies over the winter, i'm just reluctant to spend energy before i get some good idea how to do it. we have a lot of cloudy days over the winter here, so sun is not an overall option + my GH stands on a concrete non insulated garage

some ideas would be great:)

cheers

Do you have "heat tape" there? We used it for camping to keep the hose from freezing. Maybe bury some in the gravel?

hey dave
we call that "heating cable"
i was thinking of locally heating the GBs but, the thing is my FT is located outside the GH and that takes a lot of heat outside when the pump is running

i will probably move the FT inside the GH, i don't think it will be an issue in the summer since the GH is shaded, what do you think?

do you know where i could find some carp temp/feeding chart on the net?
