Yeah....

I have over stocked my tanks as well, planing to add another tank and more growbeds by the start of next year

I did that too, and lost all my fish :-(
Be careful, be proactive, and DON'T Procrastinate! Get that other tank in ASAP, and make sure you have sufficient GBs
Good Luck.

But I just don't think I want 50 tandanus ;-)
Is it worth a trip up there? delivery @$35 says to me it's uneconomical, despite me being close.
Just wondering if it was interesting, or just a front desk?

Thanks for the tip, were planning a trip there before x-mas, also interested in tandanus,
will take half or what you can spare and just order SPs.

How are the Tandanus going KP?

Thinking I could get some of those when I set my system up! Love my "Bruce" in my fishtank in my loungeroom, but wouldn't mind if they were bought specifically for eating! LOL

I lost a couple that I noticed... the rest have gone into hiding... I see them on occasion, but feel they're living in the pipes.
I fear i have lost more than I know, simply cos I can't see them :-(
Silvers on the other hand are doing fantastically! Very happy with them indeed.

Maybe "Bruce" could have a friend? they will breed in tanks. Perhaps if he were extra lucky, he could have more than one friend ;-)

KP, when you say they breed in tanks, how big a tank are we talking :?:

I would love to breed some but thought I would need at least a small pond say 3000 litres with gravel on the bottom for nesting.

No worries, I was looking at this a while ago because I would like to breed my own edible fish. We don't have many options in NSW.

I know that Tandanus will breed in a fairly small space, just how small I am not sure.

That too is about the sum of my knowledge... I had assumed they'd breed in an indoor tank. They don't mind a heated tank, and perhaps they will require temps to stimulate breeding, I just don't know.

From what I've read... they will breed in large tanks... emphasis on large... with slow flow and preferably some turbidity...

Require large amounts of gravel... which the male scoops into a depression, sometimes up to a meter wide...

When the female is happy with the nest, she'll lay her eggs... which the male fertilises, then gaurds for 5-7 days until they hatch.... and/or they fry are free swimming and feeding themselves...

Spawn trigger is typically a rise in water and water temp to above 20 degrees... (spring flood)
