(10) Rise in the incidence of heatstroke and drop in production due to more sickies.

I was talking about the real rulers of OZ not the clowns in Canberra :)

The only time you give up is when you don't believe in your own convictions; otherwise it is just everyone else who is foolish.
I know a lot of foolish people :)

If you feel strongly about it, DLS is an issue for you.
I don't find it an issue
But go for it and good luck!

To Summarise:-

People vote for DL because:-

(1) They can't be bothered to play with their children in the morning.
Yes it more convenient to play with kids outside after work

(2) Because the Government has decided, without a mandate (actually against a previous mandate) to do it.
A one year trail then vote would have been more sensible. There have been three previous referendums on this issue all roughly 53% against. The electoral has change a bit in the last 17 years. I still think it will go as per previous

(3) Business wants it
Those that deal with Eastern states do.

We could all hide inside. Are you familiar with hats/sunscreen? Even without DLS I think you should look into them

((5) They prefer ES milk because ours goes off quicker.
Changing clocks by an hour makes the milk go off? :sign5:
Sleepe wrote:
(6) Air conditioners mean they can live in an ill designed box without too much discomfort in the hottest part of the day and so can their children.
Changing clocks by an hour has very little effect on housing design. Do you have red herrings in your AP?
Sleepe wrote:
(7) They think that they will still be able to afford the extra electricity that will rise at an alarming rate.
See previous link to Western Power study. 0.6%. I am alert not alarmed
Sleepe wrote:
(8) They think that they are prepared to put up with the time dislocation problem and the changing of appliances twice a year.
How hard is it?
Sleepe wrote:
(9) Victoria and NSW are always right because thats where our 'leaders' are and they have it.
We shouldn't do it because of state pride?

Newsflash : The temp doesn't not vary significantly hour by hour. If it's hot at 4PM it will probably be hot a 5PM. If it's hot a 5PM it was probably already hot at 4PM. If I get at home at 4:30pm and it's 40degC, taking the kids to the local pool is more likely than football. The 25m and toddler's pool at Freo is under a 99% UV cover. My UV protection options abound

To summarise : I like it and will enjoy it while it lasts. Once it's gone I won't cry, it's only an hour

To paraphrase Maddox : If you disagree with anything in this post you are wrong. :D

DLS isn't a major issue to me..

The government forcing something on us after numerous referendum votes of NO? That's a major issue to me...

Look if someone can give Lungy a bananna, I don't mind continuing. However one of my other convictions is that you should not annoy chimpanzees.

B2

When I summarised it was tongue in cheek, or more likely beer in hand :) as I get pissed off with the pro DLS people not disscussing the matter rationally and trivialising those who oppose DLS.
There is only one main issue that I am concerned with and that is skin cancer. There will be a rise in skin cancer, because of daylight saving, it will not happen immediately as the damage is done early, the effects occur later.
It will occur to those younger children whose parents arn't quite as 'responsible' as you and to teenagers no matter how responsible their parents are (I'm afraid slip slop and slap is not cool).
The effects may not be as dramatic as they could be, due to some educational effects but they will happen.
You may think one hour will not make a difference, read the times of highest UV and what the cancer council says about exposure.

I am not as confident as you that the vote will go against DLS, the government, ably assisted by the Chamber of Commerce has orchestrated this very well, positives are being emphasised negatives are being swept under the carpet and statistics are being fudged. We don't get to vote on it straight away but strangely in the coldest month.

OK Rant over, no doubt convenience and business will win again :(

Thants probably cause you wanted to get there before the hottest part of the day an be home in time for dinner.

(For anyone who doesn't know OBO lives about 5 hours from the beach, maybe more  !)

Never thought of it like that!

I'd just like to say, that due to DLS, I spend a lot more time in the evenings, outside, working on the garden, and playing with the kids - doing stuff that you cant do first thing in the morning. Thats the main reason I like it.

Skin cancer is an issue - but as you drive around, look at the kids. Most of them have hats on, and are educated about sun damage.

I daresay that the vote will be pretty even again.
