BTW, slightly OT.
The old man was sort of interested in tandanus (not this year more's the pity)
But is concerned for his yabbie population. He wont put in golden perch for fear of decreasing the amount of yabbie pate he can chew through each year. So he's looking for something 'nicer'
I have NFI what will go well with yabbies, anybody else?

no you should go if you have the time. It took about 1 hour each way, once you got onto the Hume. but it was worth the trip. just to see his setup, breading tanks, fish sorting tanks, feed tanks lots of tanks !!!

i was very frustrated i didnt take the camera

Where I am it's more like 30 mins away... I really have no excuse, besides a lack of time.
I'll see what I can do next time.

You know getting them that small you will need to heat them over winter [or extend the summer warmth ]just to keep them alive

You need to get them to around 75mm at least to survive water temps around 10 deg c - but if the temperatures are really stable they seem to do a lot better. Once I enlargened the main tank, I didnt loose any more silvers. Variation went from 5 deg c a day/night to 2 deg c.

Should be doable with the couple of months left. Just smash the food into them.

Hi F&F

The silvers are 40-50, and the goldens are 30-50.
Over night my water temp is not going below 10 deg c during the day it is staying at around 18 - 22 deg c.

can you tell me what size will i be looking at by march ? is this when i will be looking at re heating the tank ?

I will bet there will be more 40 than 50 as for size you will be pushing to double size by march by all means get them and be prepared even to put them in a smaller heated tank to keep over winter the ones i got last year as fingerlings 30 to 40 mm
Twelve months later are now 100 mm
glenburn lost 30,000 last year to the cold or something normally he would be selling them at 100 mm long

Bearing in mind that some of SP will probably "Kark" in the new system, What do you recon?

I reckon you put any more fish in there dicko and they will all cark it  That will be horribly overstocked once they get a bit bigger. By my calcs, you could have a max of around 15kg's of fish in that system, hence once they reach 150 grams each you will be maxed out.
