Now the Bream are in the tank, ( after about an hour of aclimatising them to the water) the goldfish are following them around in schools. A few days later, and 2 Bream deaths the goldfish are showing signs of being beaten up, with some fins missing/smaller, and one dead goldfish. So another plastic tub has been added to isolate the goldfish from the Bream, this tub has a pile of holes drilled in it, and gets the overflow from one of the GBs, so the water is flowing through it. Now everyone is happy. I still haven't sorted out the flows to the GBs but am not to worried as the Ammo, and Nitrates are both at 0, and am planning on getting one bigger GB when i have time over the christmas break, to simplify things a bit. Maybe one third of an IBC..
Later,
Wavey.

A few Questions, how much should I be feeding? there are 20 bream between 6cm and 10cm, they are eating 4mm sinking pellets, about 1 or 2 teaspoons a day at the moment.
Also, should I add some salt to the system, or wait for a problem to arise before salting. Fish have been in about 10 days, with the 2 deaths in the first day or 2.
Cheers,
Wavey.

While I'm at it I may as well keep asking questions, I have got some of these snails out of a friends pond, is there any reason not to put these into my AP? The smaller one is about 10mm, and bigger round one about 15mm.
Also, if i add some duckweed, and the bream don't eat it will it take over, so i can't see the fish, and will be stuck fishing it out forever? or will I just have to get some SP to eat it all up?

Silvers like duckweed. It does take a while to grow and does give the fish shade. I like to salt a little, 1ppt just in case. It don't seem to hurt the plants and the fish seem happier.

Feed the bream as much as they will eat - this stops predatory behavior. Obviously while keeping the water parameters in spec.

Dont introduce snails - they block pipework apparently.

1ppt salt is the go.
1kg per 1000 litres.

Yeah .. don't go to Ikea.... you'd spend three days trying to understand the instructions... only to find out that you're missing two pieces.... and the growbed ended up looking more like a swing set.... but oh so stylish....

Frames are from old Primary school desks, they had a few damaged ones to be thrown out, so I scored them.
Cheers for the replies on the salt, and Snails, I'll get some plain salt to get it to about 1ppm.
Wavey.
