Rupe, I would love to see the pics.

I will have to pull my finger out and see if I can get sorted, might try and cross the one jade amongst some silvers that way I would have nothing to loose if the jade x silver didn't work I would just end up with silvers. just a thought.

I do know where I can get some silver brood stock but apparently if they are stressed at the wrong time they will reabsorb the eggs, but it is still worth getting them I guess.

Hey Grunta... you can see a lot of pics from my Natfish course here ...

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3038

Last couple of pages show the algae/rotifer/artemia cultures and hormone injection...

If you want the lot PM me your address and I'll cut a CD for you...

With the non availbilty of any fish atm, I am thinking seriously of converting the quarantine system into a breeding system for silvers.

Rupe, do I need a license ir anything to obtain / inject the hormone?

It's not so much a licensing issue OBO... or just injecting the hormone...

You have to have suitable brood stock, be able to determine what stage the eggs are at... be able to culture the necessary algae, rotifers and artemia... to feed the larvae until you can get them on to starter dust...etc etc...

Requires knowledge, practice, probably a few failures  .... a sterile environment, appropriate tanks and equipment... microscope... etc etc...

thanks for those photos Rupe, that would have been a great experiance.

when I did my course they only had juvanile silver perch over here so most of our work was with black bream, we went through all the stuf you did but with out actuly spouning them as it was the wrong time of year and we used benzocane in alcohol to knock them out.

I had to show my licence before they would sell me any hormone. Apparently body builders use the stuff if they can get their hands on it.

P.S ... Silver Perch are ready to spawn NOW.... well at least over here on the eastern seaboard....

After the coldest November on record (what happened to Global Warming?) in WA most Perch breeders are still waiting for the water temps to warm up enough so they can start.
