Figured to run the second table.... I'd need more fish... and a few for the BYAP "demo" unit....and inspired to maybe grow a few fish out for broodstock....

Grabbed a 100 of Glen Searles best fingerlings.... Murray/Clarence stock... selected for growth.... and these are the "bolters" of this seasons first batch.....

Double bagged, oxygen injected, salted, chilled with a bit of ice in foam boxes... one bag/box....

In the boot of the car for 10 hours.... all just fine.... floated them for a while...

Totally different fingerlings from the first lot... behaviour wise...

The first lot school down low and stay tight.... these guys just wandered off... came back together... darted off...

And were quite happy to come to the surface... in a light coloured, clear water tank...

Thought maybe they might be a bit oxygen starved... crank up the airstone... but they just seem perfectly happy rising up.... P.S. ... definitely weren't "gasping".... just curious...

Well major, major :hsm:

Got home after dark last night... thought I'd prepare another tank so that I could transfer the last 100 fingerlings and setup the growbeds this weekend...

Filled the tank up.... and went to bed... got up early and looked at the existing tank....

Yep definitely time for a water change... the new taqnk looked crystal clear... transferred the fingerlings... and went inside for the morning cup of coffee...

As soon as I started filling the jug I knew I had a problem.... the water board has been replacing some major pipes into town... and was supposed to bring them online this weekend....

The water coming out of the tap was pure white... and stayed that way for over ten minutes.... smelt like hospital grade domestos.... obviously massively treated with chlorine and chloromine... you wouldn't even swim in it, let alone drink it...

Went and checked the tank... smelt like crap... and the fish were not happy.... very listless and fanning their fins flat out....

Have transferred them to the hospital tank... salted (1ppt) and wacked two airstones in... they're struggling... but in the last half hour are looking a little better....

Been waiting for the landlady to OK a rainwater tank... but bugger it... I'm gunna buy one this weekend anyway...

Prognosis for fish.... 60/40% .....

Went and checked

Starting to feel a little more confident now... no deaths so far.... fish look a bit more active and happy... biggest risk now is secondary infection from stress and handling (netted twice... :( )

Was going to give the water board a blast.... but couldn't get through....

Higher number than usual calls... apparrantly....

Seems they decided to switch a section of pipe online when they knocked off about 20:00, because it's due to rain over the weekend and they weren't sure whether or not they'd be working....

Apparantly they thought the water would be "clear" by the morning... wouldn't have helped me... as I filled the tank about 22:00 last night... and the tank looked fine this morning...
