yeah. ya can't win em all. Gonna have a look at using seconds poly rain water tanks- food grade, and you can get them about 1.3 m high 2 metres around for less than $500. Cut segments out of the top leaving 'spokes' for strength, bob's your uncle!!
Looking for a bit extra height so I can syphon from the tank to the grow beds.

Why are the tanks seconds Monya - what is wrong with them? Sounds like a good option if such things are available at a good discount.

The price you are quoting seems pretty good Monya as the squat tanks are normally much more costly than the tall ones. A nylex 2160 diameter, 1450 height (inlet height 1250) retails for $1060. It holds 5000 litres.

Are seconds readilly available where you are Monya?

they are scratch and dent, cosmetic stuff which shouldn't affect us at all. Look at taking 40% off the retail price for a seconds item. I've got to go look at them tomorrow, see for myself what they are really like. As for avaliability, I rang all the local tank places today, and they had a variety of different ones available. I reckon it's just a matter of timing. Not sure whether to get 2300 ltres or 4500 litres.

Oh, yeah, I re did the water in the bucket of gravel test. 3.5 litres for the 10 litre bucket. Too much for my liking. Must shop around for different gravel.

Got a quote on a stainless steel tank. Round corrugated 304 stainless. 2000mm diameter, 1200mm high, no top, capacity 3800 litres (if filled to brim). Guess how much :?:

I will make some more inquiries - might even go and have a chat to the bloke to see if I can have a look at the product to see if it is of quality.

Will update in due course.

got one of the poly tanks today. 2300 ltres with a removable lid for $385. Just a few scratches. Also a couple of 1200 litre grow beds for $270 each. They are a bit large in diameter, but the right depth and they should be okay.

Well done Monya - that is so cheap! I doubt that they would discount seconds to that degree up here. There is a huge demand for water tanks right now so prices are at a premium.

Tell us more about the grow beds. Are they round like the tanks? How deep are they? What is their normal use?
